The collaborative preaching component is based on the theory of John S. The author chose four case studies of pastors and churches in the Presbyterian Church USA who are the 'Joshua' following the 'Moses' of their churches. The long pastorates range from twenty-one to forty- five years. The churches are thriving in increases of worship attendance, membership, budget and staff. This thesis will consider a way of preaching, inclusive to all people, avoiding a metaphorical language, and not jumping to conclusions on sickness and handicap being the will of God. I will study my own preaching, as well as traditional preaching within the Church of Sweden and a few examples from American homiletics. (Preamble to the Constitution of the United Church of Christ) I show that scholars in the field of hermeneutics are seeing the need to interpret from a tradition. I give an overview of the Post Critical Retrieval Movement. I illustrate how five texts have been interpreted through tradition in the field of spiritual direction. I introduce an Evangelical and Catholic tradition. I give an introduction to how Augustine, Chrysostoom, Bernard, Calvin and Barth interpret scripture. I glean twelve common hermeneutical insights from these five interpreters. I explain my own 'pre-understandings' for interpreting scripture. In two case studies I show how interpreting through this tradition differs from how one would interpret using only the historical-critical method. This project begins with a survey of biblical and professional literature regarding the subject of vocational ministry mentoring.  Special emphasis has been placed upon literature that addresses the cultural issues that one may face while ministering in the North American Chinese church context.  The centerpiece of this project revolves around two case studies of Chinese churches that are presently sponsoring and hosting vocational ministry internships. Once case study was conducted at the West Houston (Houston, Tex) Chinese Church and the second involving two churches with a cooperative internship program--the Chinese Bible Church of Maryland (Rockville, Md), and the Chinese Christian Church of Greater Washington, DC (Silver Spring, Md).
