Using Edward Soja's Thirdspace explorations as the basis for a critical spatial imagination applied to new church developments and taking Acts 10 as a biblical paradigm, the project sought to engage in the lived experience of ministers in this space and map the areas of diffraction in regard to well being.  Research showed that particular combinations of stressors within new church development affected well being. He also did a synod-wide survey of all LCMS pastors to determine current practices and attitudes concerning the frequency of offering the Lord's Supper. The results showed that the Lord's Supper was at the center of weekly worship in scripture and in the first three centuries in the early church. The results also showed a recovery of this understanding in the Lutheran Reformation. In 2001, in Summerton, South Carolina, thirty Presbyterians, in taped interviews, provided the data as to the nature and content of their meditations and theology.  This dissertation provides a research tool, the raw data, and categorizes the results.  It reports changes incorporated in ministerial practice as a result of those discoveries. The author researched opinions of biblical scholars and Christian theologians, interviewed gay and lesbian Christians, and studied three congregations in order to develop models of hospitality that welcome gay and lesbian people into the fellowship of United Methodist congregations. A trajectory of welcome for the stranger was developed, using the books of Ruth, Isaiah and Mark. That focus of inclusion offers a foundation for biblical and theological rationales for alternative understandings of hospitality and concrete expressions of welcome offered by actual congregations. The Church passes on the Christian faith to its young, but it also receives new and valuable perspectives into its faith from the young. This paper seeks to explore systematically children's insights into the Christian message, drawing on the body of research and reflection accumulated by the international Catechesis of the Good Shepherd movement over the course of the past fifty years. It then asks how children's theology--named 'mustard seed theology'--can be of particular use to preachers. It reports the results of two sets of interactions with preachers around the question. A framework of pastoral ministry outlined by Eugene Peterson is used to examine the ministries of three professionals working with persons with alzheimer's.
