The author identifies disturbing news in human struggles that are rooted in abuses of power that result in discrimination and neglect. She discusses the development of mass media and the influence of politics and economics on news production. Learning to adapt, to adjust, and striving to achieve and to survive, in America, they are American citizens but no 'Americans.' In Vietnam, they are Vietnamese but not Vietnam's citizens. This exilic experience of Vietnamese American Catholics needs to be addressed in preaching. The Hebrews' exilic experience is helpful for Vietnamese Americans to voice their felt loss. Research focused on male spirituality and small group dynamics.  Scriptures that emphasized spiritual relationships, spiritual growth, and spiritual commitment directed the group and helped strengthen relationships with God and each other.  Discussion questions and a closing exercise for each meeting are included in the paper. The implication is that clergy are aware of the shifts in American culture, the diminishing role of the church, and the impact upon congregations. Such preaching involves a measure of self-disclosure, providing identification between preacher and hearer. The author did qualitative research with men and women in recovery who were participating in Serenity Retreats, and who affirmed the need for a preacher's self-disclosure and awareness of recovery motifs. He also did similar research within a parish setting, with like results. Army","Communities--Religious aspects","Holy Spirit"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The central thesis is that celebrative preaching on the Holy Spirit is an effective means to build Christian community in an Army congregation that is extremely diverse and mobile. Just as esprit de corps, in the military, unites diverse individuals into cohesive organizations so, such preaching on the Holy Spirit effectively forms Christian community. Through congregational questionnaires, personal interviews, e-mail exchanges, and informal conversations, the author proved four out of five presuppositions that substantiated this thesis. The method used for this project is what is known as the 'grounded theory' approach, because the project calls for qualitative research that seeks to include diversity and quality assessment, both biblically and theologically, to build theory grounded in reality.
