But many parishes experience obstacles to this ministry, including suburban relocation, ethnic homogeneity, and even a perceived opposition between a traditional liturgical identity and participation in face-to-face outreach. The author of this study established a program in a liturgical, ethnically distinct parish that had little experience in outreach. The resulting ministry project successfully demonstrated that parishes are able to overcome obstacles to outreach, provided that the new ministry is linked meaningfully to traditional foundations, and is managed according to the needs of those receiving and providing ministry."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Pittsburgh Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31bd5819-b5a3-4928-96d5-b581f38b637b"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791126579702661120,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:30:16.495Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T09:22:10Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:44:49Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"c255e8d8-4f3a-477a-afa9-7567c7c8fe86","accessControl_ssim":["65e12a06-eb64-4410-b000-0550a954391c"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["A contextual design for the missional church"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T09:22:09Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:42:56Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["dc9cdc52-d9a5-4d5e-90f7-464ed7d45f1a"],"hasLease_ssim":["74e8047a-3fa3-4fc5-aa05-8437193c5f07"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Pittsburgh Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Scott W Sunquist"],"year_tesim":["2004"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["William P Crooks"],"publisher_tesim":["Pittsburgh Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Trinity Presbyterian Church (Mercer, Pa)","Mission of the church","Bosch, David J., 1929-1992","Missions--Theory","Guder, Darrell L"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Churches often care for their own membership almost exclusively. The challenge is for the church to regain this same passion in its ministry to the world."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["5a6e4a36-5801-4bff-8e61-86d7489efb4a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799715596859867136,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T01:49:01.561Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T09:21:13Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:32:43Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"2280861f-92dd-4285-a905-3f02c30a299d","accessControl_ssim":["cd3bb124-7ed7-4141-ac4b-a130ac6e3a70"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Learning the grammar of an ecumenical faith: adult education and the formation of conciliar identity in the local congregation of the United Church of Christ"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T09:21:12Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:09:19Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["bbea05b8-0375-408e-a2ed-0a7f8fdfba23"],"hasLease_ssim":["81d4c543-069b-4650-9d01-ba297af5cb48"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Pittsburgh Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Scott W Sunquist","Charles E Hambrick-Stowe"],"year_tesim":["2004"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Albert J Walsh"],"publisher_tesim":["Pittsburgh Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Ecumenical movement","History","Conciliar theory","United Church of Christ--Doctrines","United Church of Christ"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The essential characteristic of both individual and corporate identity in the United Church of Christ is to be determined by its ecumenical mandate and is therefore conciliar in nature. Conciliar identity is to be developed in the local setting of the church. The author researched the historical formation of the United Church of Christ and the historical development of the ecumenical movement in order to assess the relationship between the two, to demonstrate the convergences evident in their unfolding histories, and to gather sources said to be intrinsic to the development of conciliar identity at the local level. Both the historical traditions of the United Church of Christ and the ecumenical movement provided resources for the development of an educational program intended to initiate the process of conciliar identity formation. The program was taught over a period of eight weeks, with nine participants and contributing presentations made by representatives of confessions other than those associated with the United Church of Christ. In conclusion, the author determined the necessity for the course to be extended. While participants could define the essential characteristics of conciliar identity with limited effectiveness, there was evident promise of further enrichment of that identity, together with associated practices."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Pittsburgh Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31bd5819-b5a3-4928-96d5-b581f38b637b"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791126737075044352,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:32:46.577Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T09:21:13Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:34:34Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"2df47966-3d3d-4844-86bb-1c15d313df99","accessControl_ssim":["1e496d6c-83de-40ec-a7a3-1bce51805664"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Mary, a source of Christian unity: an adult formation process"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T09:21:12Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:28:26Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["741751e9-6623-40e8-8b00-37f7eeb811bf"],"hasLease_ssim":["5bb873f7-d1df-463d-8c44-e683894be5f6"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Joseph S Tortorici"],"year_tesim":["2004"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min.
