Six research questions were designed from the study of the precedent literature in the field. This results in lack of a loving relationship among her members.  The above phenomenon of DPC, the lack of a loving relationship or concern for one another is reflected in the fact that small group team ministry does not thrive in DPC.  Ideally, small group ministry would flourish and would lead to spiritual growth and revitalization at DPC.  The DPC would then be able to regain the shape of a loving community.  When spiritual growth occurs that comes from team ministry centered on thriving small groups, DPC can be revitalized to become a dynamic church with motivation for missions and service. Stumbling blocks in the way of growth include ignorance of the current state of DPC and a lack of vision concerning for the future of DPC, as well as resistance to change on the part of members.  Theological, biblical, historical, and cultural bases of small group ministry are examined in this study, as well as the positive and negative aspects of identity among Korean immigrants.  The study suggests ways to bring about change. Interventions included creation of a new shared decision making team that was representative of clinical pastoral education staff, staff chaplains, and students.  Evaluation of thesis interventions focused on assessing changes in the attitudes of staff members from early resistance to collaboration. The participants indicated that they grew in their understanding and practice of intercessory prayer. The foundation for the answer is found in the Biblical teaching that holds the purity of God's church in tension with the growth of God's church.  The Bible consistently exhorts leaders to be attentive to both purity and growth, not emphasizing one to the neglect of the other. Only a comprehensive understanding of Biblical teaching can produce a theology of assimilation that guards the church from both extremes. A survey of church history demonstrates the difficulty of maintaining this balance, as the church at times has been too exclusive and at other times too inclusive. An examination of the confessions and creeds of all major denominations reveals a consistent recognition of three criterion that must be met in order for one to be admitted into the full privileges and responsibilities of church life, mainly through the time-honored traditions of church membership and church discipline.  These high standards are largely neglected in the North American church today, resulting in a spiritually weak, theologically illiterate, and largely unregenerate church. This dissertation examines the pastoral ministry of Jonathan Edwards as a case study for developing a theology of assimilation. Special attention is paid to the process, rationale, circumstances, and missteps leading up to his dismissal from the Northhampton Church. While both theories are 'logically diverse,' each offers a relational perspective that is essential to human existence. The focus of this work is that when these areas of study and discovery are opened the average member's spiritual life benefits and the member experiences a closer relationship with the Lord. Analysis of the issue is based on surveys of those who participated in an eleven week course of study covering the development of spirituality and the disciplines historically associated with spirituality.
