A local church can be a catalyst for change by challenging its members to make room for the other, thereby experiencing growth and development as spiritual beings. The thesis was developed in a project that included taped pre- and post- interviews with selected members of the congregation. The project concluded with a presentation to church leaders and invited members of the community."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["5a6e4a36-5801-4bff-8e61-86d7489efb4a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799718874821689344,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:41:07.669Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:09:08Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:57:04Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"d16794c1-739c-4a91-a5ea-8bddec35f817","accessControl_ssim":["f4a10450-b047-4694-992b-6d45c60b27f4"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Developing a mentoring ministry for new members at the Parkway Baptist Church, Tupelo, Mississippi"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:09:06Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:07:26Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["3b6d2cd2-e6f8-4f61-a33d-09c2be383777"],"hasLease_ssim":["996540ef-0af7-49d3-8b79-18738fd83b9f"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["John F Gibson"],"year_tesim":["2005"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Paul B Brashier"],"publisher_tesim":["New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Parkway Baptist Church (Tupelo, Miss)","Baptists--Membership","Assimilation (Sociology)","Church membership","Mentoring in church work"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The purpose of the project is to equip a select group of Christians of the Parkway Baptist Church, Tupelo, Mississippi, to mentor new church members in matters of Christian faith and local church membership. This project begins by exploring the theological reasoning behind this endeavor and the conflict it has brought to Christian communities that worship together, examining the definition of worship and investigating if contemporary worship is really worship or if it is an evangelism event outside the category of worship. The process of collecting data for this study was trough the case study model using information from interviews of pastors and members of various worshiping communities, examining the implementation of contemporary service 'starts.' The study includes those services that are successful and those that have not been. Churches that exclusively use a contemporary service format and churches that have added contemporary services to the worship offerings of an existing service schedule are included in the project. Each of these service types is examined independently since there are often considerable differences between these initiating congregations. While United Methodist Churches have taken preference in the study, denominations whose worship services are similar to those found in the United Methodist tradition have also been included."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["5a6e4a36-5801-4bff-8e61-86d7489efb4a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791126033601134592,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:21:35.692Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":412,"label":"Unknown"},{"value":"D.Min.
