This was accomplished through a series of teachings. An intergenerational class was the setting. The sessions became the rallying and coalescing catalyst for change. The results were phenomenal. Attitudes changed from passivity to activity, from apathy to passion and from lethargy to vitality. Age and race issues were resolved. The author combines practical suggestions for contextual preaching with perspectives from theological, missiological, biblical, and cultural studies. He claims that preaching is more effective when it is rooted in the context of the audience. The author illustrates this claim by analyzing four sermon samples, which embody some aspects of the religio-cultural ethos and communication forms of the Yoruba. Many members of the church are not proficient in leading a person to Jesus. This research seeks to address this issue by providing a training program. A profile of the Greenwich church has been established and a task force team has been established comprising people trained in personal evangelism. Questionnaires and seminars were the primary means of establishing the team. 19 people have been identified. Administrative board and church members were invited to participate (22 participants). Since the project was implemented, our average Sunday morning attendance increased by twenty percent. The method utilized five focus congregations in which a questionnaire was completed and lengthy discussion of other relevant topics was held. In addition, discussion was pursued with individuals from the other fifty-six churches in the presbytery. The paper also incorporates some of the current thought regarding the role of middle governing bodies in a mainline tradition.
