Through three case studies, strategies and methods were discovered. What was surprising to the researcher is that they have discovered and used them unintentionally. They intentionally applied biblical instruction in their relationships, but they did not do this intentionally to transition generational leadership. What can be deduced is that though the generational transfer of leadership was unintentional, it was successful. Therefore, other churches might do it intentionally."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["8322f611-a593-413a-8bcd-0011fba52dc7"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130392727650304,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:30:52.879Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T09:44:36Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:35:57Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"a135b1e7-bd0c-43f6-9293-ebfddc6772d4","accessControl_ssim":["451a0466-0035-4385-adfa-c63e973ff568"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["A case study of the volunteer culture of Liberty Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T09:44:35Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:49:57Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["5d2b4d85-c202-4123-b120-b4f0a02d8ad1"],"hasLease_ssim":["d67c2fb8-ecee-4047-880a-31d4d87e38d4"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["John W Reed"],"year_tesim":["2005"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["William Nathan Baxter"],"publisher_tesim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Volunteer service","Leadership","Liberty Church (Tulsa, Okla)","Case studies"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project is a case study of the culture at Liberty Church that fosters high levels of volunteers and produces volunteer leaders at the highest levels of the organization. Impediments to the realization of educational ministries that address these needs included the busy lifestyles of these members, the cultural perspective that de-values Christian education for adults, particularly in traditional forms, and resulting lack of confidence or interest among lay leaders to work with pastors in developing educational opportunities for adults. Despite these impediments, the dominant ecclesial model of Hope United Church of Christ centered on the biblical metaphor 'household of God'. This metaphor related to the issue of adult education by implying that the tasks of faith development and biblical interpretation belong to clergy and laity alike, are to be undertaken communally, and are life-long. The development of new educational ministries place the congregation primarily in the second, or 'changing' stage of the three-stage theory of change. In this stage, I developed an intervention consisting of multiple educational series. The first was a catechetical series for adults, the second an on-going Christian faith discussion group for adults, and the third a series for parents and children to begin to discuss the Christian faith together. The primary outcome of these programs was the laying of a biblical foundation for adults in their own faith development and in their role as parents."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["McCormick Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["7eda0323-a6d9-4fe2-807a-22620dd389a5"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791128538606206976,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:01:24.651Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T09:44:07Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:43:59Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"f7e0909e-7887-48f2-ad3d-cad679f7d41b","accessControl_ssim":["0ec1c727-c469-448c-ac25-716f1256ace9"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Development and evaluation of a course in personal Bible study"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T09:44:06Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T05:12:48Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["4593da0e-9bd9-49c2-b5c8-ec2d13545c1b"],"hasLease_ssim":["e68ead2f-a075-4a20-9348-b857578d91e7"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Mark S Young"],"year_tesim":["2005"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Tony L Carr"],"publisher_tesim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Education--Curricula","Christian education--Teaching methods","Spiritual formation","Christian education","Bible--Study"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Many experience the value of God's Word today as a treasure and His gift to man. Yet many today neglect it. This project provides one means of seeking to address this problem. This research measured the value of training people to study the Bible, specifically whether developmental training in personal Bible study methods would improve student attitudes toward their personal Bible study. It also measured whether the training would improve student habits in their personal Bible study. Following the development of the training course and the curriculum to be used, the research was designed to utilize a survey questionnaire constructed with a Likert-scale of response options. It also included multiple-choice options, as well as reverse scored items. The survey data were gathered for two class groups and a non-trained control group to increase the breadth of sample survey and comparison. The survey was used as a pre-test and post-test within the class groups, but only as a post-test with the control group. Additional qualitative data were gathered through focus group feedback from each class group and instruments that utilized open-ended questions, specifically -- a Bible study inventory that was used as a pre-test and post-test and a self-reported post-course evaluation form. This study found that the training was effective in improving the habits of Bible study for one class group. It was also effective in improving student habits and skills of relating the Bible to one's life and world for one class group. The research showed the training was not effective in improving the attitudes of students in either class."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["8322f611-a593-413a-8bcd-0011fba52dc7"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791131220980006912,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:44:02.762Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T09:44:06Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:02:34Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"78ee34c9-e7f4-423a-a58b-12be87cf53ad","accessControl_ssim":["78631b3a-3b4b-4983-a72c-f9a21d43630a"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Repentance as regeneration: the practice of mutual invitation as missional formation"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T09:44:05Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:41:14Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["7b356d22-915b-4c34-8f85-f443dbc174a5"],"hasLease_ssim":["185b0772-102a-47e0-97a8-fa26ea821784"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["David Forney"],"year_tesim":["2005"],"location_tesim":["United States"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Mary Rebecca Burton"],"keyword_tesim":["Congregations--Internal conflict"],"publisher_tesim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Congregations","Communication--Religious aspects--Christianity","Presbyterian Church","Law, Eric H F","Calvin, Jean, 1509-1564","Theology"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The question of redemptive communication in mediating difficult issues and conflict has been an issue in Presbyterian congregations. This project focuses the intersection of John Calvin's theology of repentance and a communications method developed by Episcopal priest Eric Law with a particular Session and other members of the congregation. Law's method was explored with the Session. A qualitative research design was developed and a series of surveys and interviews with elders and church consultant were conducted. The research discloses that Calvin's understanding of repentance as change connects with Law's process since it seeks to help leaders and congregations engage in conflict and a changing environment in a healthy manner."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["b5eba5c2-141b-4673-9689-2f9720736859"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791128615207829504,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:02:37.703Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T09:44:06Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:24:45Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"217915a3-d677-4fa4-b3f2-0f9f5f146486","accessControl_ssim":["987d3af6-9ea6-404a-b84d-7c184246d366"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Design \u0026 evaluation of a training manual to instruct children in basic biblical doctrines"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T09:44:06Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:07:40Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["2f4e5b17-04da-4a9b-9f9e-777fb4fd5ea1"],"hasLease_ssim":["a373bbe2-e62a-4167-94f5-f1b7aeea3a69"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Andrew B Seidel"],"year_tesim":["2005"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Robert W Oliver"],"publisher_tesim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Education--Curricula","Evangelical Free Church of America","Dispensationalism","Catechetics","Christian education"],"language_tesim":["English"],"alternative_title_tesim":["Design and evaluation of a training manual to instruct children in basic biblical doctrines"],"abstract_tesim":["This dissertation project sought to develop a dispensational catechism to teach children biblical doctrine. A parent's training manual for teaching their children was written based on the Evangelical Free Church of America's doctrinal statement. Thirteen parents were recruited to test the manual with twenty-six children between the ages of five and twelve. Each week's lesson included Bible study, Scripture memory and catechism memory work.
