Assessing the needs of children and adolescents has been a largely neglected area.  A Delphi panel developed elements to be included in a tool to screen 10-18 year olds' spiritual needs and resources.  A group of children and adolescents served as a case study of the tool's use. Traditional Black Baptist Churches in inner city communities are in a state of plateau and decline needing renewal and revitalization.  The researcher hypothesized that implementation of a strategic six-session Christian leadership training model would transform the church board from change inhibitors to change supporters.  A qualitative action research methodology incorporating preliminary survey, post survey, observations, and reflections was used to evaluate the effectiveness of this project. The study addressed the problem of transforming conservative attitudes about work and leisure within the congregation.  Project implementation occurred in two phases, a congregational survey and a Bible-based leisure counseling group.  Quantitative and qualitative data collected were analyzed using SPSS 13.0.  Eight hypotheses were tested, four were affirmed and four rejected. There are distinct preacher identities, and these can be determined as an outcome of a preaching survey. Data from a survey conducted among priests established three preacher identities: disciple, entertainer, and teacher. The study examines the formation needs for each identity while exploring pedagogics and methods, and presents a model for forming preachers using identity on the foundation that an understanding of preacher identity can result in better preaching.
