The methodology used was the Proactive Research Method which pro-actively worked toward a transformation of their behavior as noted thorugh qualitative data. It was found that by utilizing several techniques addressed in this project their quality of life was improved as a result of 'spiritual' education and positive 'spiritual' practices. The self-disclosure is that of first-person stories. Undergraduate Bible College student ministers often turn to their own lives as a source for sermon illustrations. Sometimes their self-disclosure lacks discretion. By paying attention to the self-disclosure critque form, student ministers can accelerate their maturity in disclosing with discretion in their use of first-person stories. Hewitt and Flett's theory (1991a, 98-101) provided the foundation for this group intervention, which included eight participants. The project sought to reduce perfectionism by identifying multiple cognitive behavioral strategies to address spiritual, cognitive, behavioral, and relational elements of perfectionism, as measured by the Multiple Perfectionism Scale (Hewitt and Flett, 1991b, 456-470) via a pretest and posttest methodology. Unfortunately, churches in transitioning neighborhoods struggle predictably with how best to respond to the unique challenges and opportunities presented by changing demographics.  The project grows out of the experiences of a local congregation, Calvary Reformed Church, Holland, Michigan over an eight year period.  This project shows that is is possible/preferable for an established congregation to embrace a community undergoing economic, ethnic or cultural change. Jerome Berryman's model for children's worship (Godly play) shows how through creativity and play children experience spirituality as transcendence and awe. The methodology of this technique will be transferred to adult ministry. This dissertation seeks to answer questions relevant to how stress affects the lives of students, their spouses, and children. Research utilized a polling instrument and interviews of students at CIU.  The results indicate those who responded handle stress in a generally positive manner.  The major sources of stress were time demands, school work, and finances/debt.  The major symptoms of stress were tiredness, anxiety, and irritability. The discernment of this covenant relationship with God and each other was described through biblical exegesis, theological doctrine, contemporary writings and artistic expression. A lectionary study book on suffering and three specific psalms was prepared.  A diverse group of pastors was recruited to take part in the study and preach a three-Sunday sermon series on three lament psalms.  The goal was to move congregants from cultural forms of denial of suffering to a biblical theology of communicating suffering.  Response cards indicated that 40% of the respondents changed their beliefs regarding God and suffering. Chapter 3 considers the theory and praxis of using illustrations. Chapter 4 gives a detailed account of the project itself.
