A quantitative research method (written surveys and focus group interviews) was used for this study. It was determined that influences shaping members' ideas of leadership include scripture, Stone-Campbell principles and practices, workplace experiences, and American political structures. The extent of thee influences varied according to a member's age, gender, and length of association with the Stone-Campbell movement. First, cast off the chains of the family of origin.  Second, resolve conflicts in the marital relation and finally, improve the friendship between husband and wife. Churches that choose to die can make a significant impact by investing their resources into Christian colleges, church planting, and mission endeavors. The author experienced this process when he led Evergreen Christian Church to close and distribute their assets to Puget Sound Christian College and the other missions they supported. A workshop was designed to educate struggling churches on the life cycle of a church and to suggest options. Using the equipping program model, the project included the development of a workshop which addressed the following topics: interpreting the mission and vision of the church; conducting a SWOT analysis; developing and prioritizing objectives; developing, implementing, and evaluating strategies; and facilitating group decision making.  Workshop participants demonstrated an increased understanding of strategy planning.
