Drawing from the author's survey of alcoholics, addicts and Orthodox priests, this study examines the role that the parish priest currently plays in the process of recovery. It further demonstrates how scripture and Orthodox tradition enhance ministry to the alcoholic and addict. Finally, the project provides clergy with a 'handbook' to effectively ministry to alcoholics and addicts and their families. Research conducted identified that other Black church studies Doctor of Ministry programs may have gaps relating to collaborative efforts between the academy and practical ministry.  A survey questionnaire was used to identify the interest in participating in such a model and the structural design for the model. A workshop was developed to equip the adult Bible study leaders in these selected methods.  The adult Bible study leaders then participated in this workshop.  The workshop consisted of six hours of group training in six sessions. Development of the project included the preparation and delivery of doctrinal sermons and the utilization of young adults within the congregation, ages 20 to 39, as recipients and resources to provide sermon analysis.  The project director utilized the ministry-skill enhancement model.  Six doctrinal surveys were completed by the participants prior to a six-part doctrinal sermon series. The Korean immigrants have experienced great growth since they first came to Hawaii in 1903. The Korean church in America has also undergone tremendous growth. First of all, this study presents the history of Korean immigration to the United States and the accompanying growth of the church in various stages from 1903 to the present. In addition, the study analyzes the results of a survey on what kind of leadership Korean American church congregation members desire. Many of Korean American church congregation members want the servant leadership model for their pastors because they have difficulty adapting to their new life in America. They suffer physical and mental stresses and depression arising from life as a minority group in a foreign land. The project involved extensive research on how to equip parents to train their children in the spiritual disciplines.  From the research the project director designed a curriculum to equip the parents to train their children selected disciplines.  An eight-week parenting workshop was conducted utilizing the curriculum in order to equip the parents. The pastor and leaders concentrated on evangelism, and coordinated the focus on evangelism training throughout the programs of the church.  As a result, the attitudes of the people were changed.  They began looking for people outside the church to whom they could minister, and with whom they could share the message of the Gospel of Christ.  Lay leaders began to teach and empower others to reach out.
