Results indicated that qualitative research is warranted. The first shows the attitudes and practices of the churches concerning church planting.  The second gives counsel from Muslim ministry workers on how to get the job done. This thesis proposes Base Christian Communities to fill that need with the purpose of effecting self-determination among marginal people by applying liberation theology based on Jesus' ministry, and parabolic patterns of gestalt psychology reflecting how Jesus taught self-determination. METHOD: Within auspices of the Episcopal Church, the writer researched, implemented, facilitated, and evaluated a base community of marginal people. The project used case studies to plan CareFest, and surveys and interviews to measure congregants' community service involvement and the perceived impact of such ministry on the church and community; event recipients were also interviewed. Post-event data supports that CareFest achieved its aims. During the course of the project, participants were recruited and trained, classes were created, and lives were touched.
