A comprehensive process for working with leaders was developed and implemented over a four-year time period. A specific portion of the process was tested using a written questionnaire and verbal interviews, which were used to assess the way volunteers perceived their own spirituality and leadership before and after four weeks of meetings and interaction with the volunteers. These informal meetings focused on providing space for intentionality in the spiritual life of the leader and encouraged the practice of spiritual exercises. The thesis of the project is that implementing a spiritual formation process of leadership development is a necessary shift in pedagogy for training local church volunteer youth leaders to most effectively lead ministries to youth and young adults with an emerging postmodern world view which values authentic spirituality over other qualities and skill sets of leadership. Chapter 1 introduces the process and provides the methodology and parameters of the research project. Chapter 2 gives an overview of the challenge of postmodernism to church leadership, the need for pedagogical change, and the historical context of spirituality and spiritual formation in both youth and leadership, as well as a theological foundation for leading such a change in a denomination. Chapter 3 summarizes and interprets the general findings while Chapter 4 provides recommendations for further study. Included in the paper is an outline of the overall process put in place as well as the specific sessions used with the youth leaders and a description of the spiritual exercises and practices presented for the use of the participants during the data collection."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Claremont School of Theology"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["e7e2d3cb-fc51-4ba5-a7fd-d43f3f8c150b"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132032157351936,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:56:56.361Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T11:30:00Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:53:09Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"30acc275-febf-49c2-b34c-245efb59cc6d","accessControl_ssim":["1778bc02-6862-44e6-8de6-a3f48f322af2"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The homiletical value of Paul's metaphors and analogies and their application to the example stories utilized in the context of the contemporary Korean preaching"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T11:29:59Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:32:55Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["0d56b54f-ee02-46f0-93a4-3c3110cb9207"],"hasLease_ssim":["db0d48e5-c656-4d2c-9552-beb0e9cb61e0"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Claremont School of Theology"],"advisor_tesim":["Lincoln E Galloway"],"year_tesim":["2007"],"location_tesim":["Korea"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Sungryul Kang"],"keyword_tesim":["Sermons--Illustrations"],"publisher_tesim":["Claremont School of Theology"],"subject_tesim":["Sermons","Paul, Saint, Apostle","Narrative theology","Theology","Metaphor","Analogy","Preaching"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Effective communication between the preacher and the congregation is a critical element in successful preaching. To be successful, preachers need to consider what makes for effective and helpful example stories, because stories can be a window to the core idea of a sermon. However, many preachers have difficulty finding good example stories when they prepare sermons. This project examines selected passages in Paul's writings from a homiletic perspective. Paul's metaphors and analogies have some recommendable elements and provide standards for selecting example stories. Paul's marriage and potter analogies in Romans and the planting and running metaphors in 1 Corinthians are excellent examples for contemporary preachers to follow. Two Korean pastors who are very famous for their impressive and influential sermons also have distinctive example stories within their sermons. There are some commonalities and differences among them. This project examines the value of Paul's metaphors and analogies and compares them with the two Korean preachers selected in order to develop some guidelines Korean preachers can follow in selecting example stories."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Claremont School of Theology"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["e7e2d3cb-fc51-4ba5-a7fd-d43f3f8c150b"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791131797805858816,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:53:12.866Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T11:29:38Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:17:57Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"3d2fc2c9-1c44-4580-8d1e-57b356f49761","accessControl_ssim":["b33d909d-9868-49e6-a171-77bfed6a3eb3"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The cell church in the United States ad the multicultural challenge"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T11:29:37Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:54:14Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["ddae925f-af36-4a2d-bd31-39b31008b7a2"],"hasLease_ssim":["427b7e0d-e5dc-451b-95dd-2cbbacf31195"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"advisor_tesim":["Sarah B Drummond"],"year_tesim":["2007"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Horacio R Davalle"],"publisher_tesim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"subject_tesim":["Cultural pluralism","Evangelistic work","Small groups","Church development, New"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project promotes the building of multicultural cell or small group churches through the development of multicultural cells or small groups. This study focuses on the perspectives on women in the church context that devalue women as imperfect and inferior beings in relationship with others. It addresses the problematic situation of gender relations in the Korean church context with a critical analysis, and shows how cultural and social norms concerning women are deeply embedded in the Korean church context. It also reveals how the problematic situation has been reinforced by its association with, and acceptance of, fundamentalist theology. This study draws on transformative learning theory as a way of fashioning a new educational model for Korean women in the church. Even though the educational theory of transformative education has been developed and applied in various educational contexts, it has rarely been discussed in a faith-based context. This project shows how it is possible to utilize transformative education theory in a faith-based context, through a case study with a class at a Bible institute. This study also draws upon narrative pedagogy as a practical principle to create a religious educational model for Korean women in the church context. Theological discussion centered on Minjung theology particularly, with the notion of shin-myung, is important in order to contextualize the narrative framework in the Korean context. As a powerful tool for promoting perspective transformations in the church, reading the sacred story, the Bible, is discussed with feminist and post-colonial perspectives. Integrating these theoretical discussions, the religious education model for Korean women is grounded on the group experiences with Korean women in two different settings, church and school. This model can initiate perspective transformation, not only in the women themselves but also in others. The educational experiences in the women's group provide possibilities and hopes for bringing meaningful changes in Korean women's context."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Claremont School of Theology"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["e7e2d3cb-fc51-4ba5-a7fd-d43f3f8c150b"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132115963740160,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:58:16.284Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T11:29:27Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:19:34Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"4dc5957d-9eb8-48a9-a93a-fa6c85096f1d","accessControl_ssim":["b65bff26-3359-401e-bbbb-cb61984c1eb4"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Play as a means of care: God's holy ground of healing and wholeness"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T11:29:22Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:25:10Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["1befe74f-ffc9-454d-b8d3-91ea690c6a0b"],"hasLease_ssim":["dade5a47-08fa-4b31-a73c-e1968bad207f"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"advisor_tesim":["Brita L Gill-Austern"],"year_tesim":["2007"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Dirkje Frieda Legerstee"],"publisher_tesim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"subject_tesim":["Play","Perfection","Pastoral theology"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Play engages body/mind/spirit offering multiple connections as elixir to existing models of pastoral care. The results indicate agreement with the content of the seminar materials related to the betrayal trauma experienced, and to the seminar's value in addressing the facilitation of recovery from clergy sexual misconduct."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Ashland Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["beb93775-0b27-4cc6-9fb0-f2ad62e68517"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791131300791320576,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:45:18.876Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T11:28:35Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:01:15Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"c276f878-b999-4379-bc45-3963d7f23961","accessControl_ssim":["1f5bf61e-3cc0-429f-8ebd-480554e94bb5"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Radical faith: a discipleship tool for the local church"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T11:28:34Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:43:12Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["6244623a-aca4-40cd-bd28-41dbd4a06006"],"hasLease_ssim":["80cdd9b9-f59e-4442-a84a-0865d32d9554"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Gary Parrett"],"year_tesim":["2007"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["William P Fillebrown"],"publisher_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Faith development","Spiritual formation"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The purpose of this thesis is to address the subject of Christian faith as being alive and dynamic. This purpose is pursued in four ways: 1)through a biblical exegesis of 'foundations' or 'rootedness'; 2) outlining how the postmodern continuum parallels the development of science; 3) by the development and conducting of an evaluative survey; 4) by the authoring and field-testing of a discipling tool that provides an overview of the Bible. The conclusion reached in the study is that the content of faith is best communicated with a personal concern for the inquirer and in the context of the faith community."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132306462736384,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:01:17.959Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T11:28:35Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T03:11:21Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"4a7d4f20-27b9-48d3-ba2f-756491d5a762","accessControl_ssim":["cface48a-e1e1-453b-be39-f5c50d8bdbc8"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The Macedonian call to preach truth to power: confessional preaching on economic justice issues in the context of preaching to the African-American working poor"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T11:28:35Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:18:55Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["bef123f4-e850-449c-95f0-4c7872c4021a"],"hasLease_ssim":["f376d631-4415-4624-accb-95441cc3dc63"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Northern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["William Richard Ezell"],"year_tesim":["2007"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Dia S Mari-Jata"],"publisher_tesim":["Northern Baptist Theological Seminary (Lombard, IL)"],"subject_tesim":["Living wage movement","Preaching--Political aspects","Minimum wage","Distribution (Economic theory)"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The author claims that confessional preaching is an effective form of public proclamation that can move the African-American working poor against economic injustices by using the confession of their faith that Jesus Christ is Lord. An online survey covered the sources and symptoms of stress, coping strategies utilized, and the effectiveness of resources. Overall trends were identified, as well as differences in gender, age, and field location. The primary stressor was high expectations of oneself or feeling inadequate. Although their physical and emotional symptoms showed that they were significantly impacted by stress, they responded in healthy ways. Recommendations for minimizing stress were made to missionaries, the organization, and churches."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791126759754694656,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:33:08.205Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":425,"label":"Unknown"},{"value":"D.Min.
