Participants attended a four-week workshop that covered the mandate for evangelism, the meaning of evangelism, the method of evangelism, and the message of evangelism. Also, a series of four evangelistic sermons was preached during the 8:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. worship. A pre-test and post-test were administered. A participant's guide was developed by the researcher and was integral for the project. Qualitative and quantitative research methods included pre-assessment and post-assessment questionnaires, personal interviews, various inventories, researcher observation, dialogue, reflection tools, vocabulary tests, and discernment. To maximize long-term retention, active learning engaged experiential metaphors and embodied practices. Confirmation content (scriptural, historical, denominational and congregational) became stories which were part of the teens' own spiritual journey and story as they confirmed their baptism. The hypothesis was that a multifaceted revelational homiletic model combining gift awareness and a personal invitation would affect lay activity levels in the local church positively. A spiritual gift inventory, three sermons, and organizational invitations tested this hypothesis. Change was measured quantitatively through a pre/post test and qualitatively through the interview process.
