My intention in this thesis is to combine expressionistic imagery with African American celebrative preaching. Most Swedish sermons are cognitive and didactic and without celebration. Preachers tend to concentrate more on law than gospel. After such a sermon there might be some quiet time for reflection. Through imaginative expressionistic celebrative preaching I will bring to Swedish preaching color and joy, which will help the listener experience the assurance of grace. In this thesis I have defined expressionistic preaching and described the African American celebrative sermon and its theology. I have also presented imaginative homiletics and its theology and presented a psychological model of interpretation of the imaginary and the mystic experience. In my thesis I have made a descriptive study of the effects in the listeners after an expressionistic celebrative sermon and described the problems with celebration in a Swedish context and given a psychological explanation for the absence of instantaneous celebration. My conclusions are: The expressionistic celebrative sermon is a colorful and positive experience. Swedish listeners experience the assurance of grace, but they don't celebrate as a group. Celebration is expressed differently in the African American context."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["d722638c-a7e2-43f3-93ff-4762bde0dde7"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791133300496007168,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:17:05.942Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:41:12Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:26:05Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"c5a1f11e-8ccc-488c-bfd1-0a5c3ee42c88","accessControl_ssim":["49f84408-52eb-40f0-b363-5d1437fa621c"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["What do body mind and spirit in community have to do with preaching?"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:41:11Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:48:30Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["48e4eb7c-3f1d-4f9a-98f3-48c5aab92473"],"hasLease_ssim":["23f84fc3-ff08-41b8-9425-374fe552b0c8"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago"],"advisor_tesim":["Timothy V Olson"],"year_tesim":["2009"],"resource_type_tesim":["Dissertation"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Pamela Challis"],"publisher_tesim":["Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago"],"subject_tesim":["Clergy--Health and hygiene","Mind and body","Holistic medicine"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This thesis proposes a direct correlation between the preacher's health in body, mind, and spirit and the effectiveness of preaching. Through these debates, primarily at its quadrennial gatherings, the church has clarified its theology and established its doctrinal standards. However, a disjunction has occurred within the church's theological anthropology. When speaking more generally about theology, the church relies upon one construction of theological anthropology. When speaking about human sexuality and homosexuality, the church relies upon a second, divergent theological anthropology. If it is the case that the church relies upon a second, divergent theological anthropology when speaking about homosexuality and homosexual practice, then its doctrine on homosexuality and homosexual practice is suspect and needs revision. To resolve this disjunction and provide this revision, the church must (1) identify the divergent theological anthropology currently used in its discussion of homosexuality and homosexual practice and (2) replace that divergent theological anthropology with an alternative, more doctrinally consistent theological anthropology. This more doctrinally consistent theological anthropology is the Eschaton Adam. The following thesis argues that this more doctrinally consistent theological anthropology offers the church a new avenue, potentially enabling the denomination to pursue theological precision and to gain greater denominational consensus on the contentious issues of homosexuality and homosexual practice. Out of this thesis, a project was created to test the theory that a disjunction was present and that substituting one theological anthropology for another would alter church doctrine, lay and clergy perceptions of that doctrine, and potentially supply the church with a viable way forward to resolve this persisting doctrinal problem of how adequately to address homosexuality and homosexual practice."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791128273757929472,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:57:12.072Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:40:41Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:04:42Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"815edeaf-e8fe-4564-ab20-e99ebef2f8f7","accessControl_ssim":["f079181a-258c-4e0a-9cfd-3ad73343efc0"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Christotelic expositions of selected Old Testament narrative passages at the Woodland Baptist Church, Brownsville, Tennessee"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:40:40Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:56:54Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["86599a0a-02fb-48b5-a507-aab7e8300ac5"],"hasLease_ssim":["ea95cbde-95b3-4334-a29c-01f08e3edab8"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Southern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Chad Owen Brand"],"year_tesim":["2009"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Joseph M Moore"],"keyword_tesim":["Jesus Christ--Relation to Old Testament"],"publisher_tesim":["Southern Baptist Theological Seminary (Louisville)"],"subject_tesim":["Expository preaching","Jesus Christ"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The purpose of this ministry project was to develop hermeneutical and homiletical methodologies for expounding selected Old Testament narrative texts christotelically at the Woodland Baptist Church, Brownsville, Tennessee.
