They step into neighborhoods that need the touch of God. They roll up their sleeves to serve in their communities in word and deed. This dissertation looks at the ministry of Clear Creek Community Church as it was transformed by a service project called Compassion Rockwood. Outlined in this work are some of the principles learned through this transformation. To achieve the goals for this project, the project director utilized an equipping module. The first phase of the project involved researching many different resources in the field of small groups and small group leadership skills. The project director utilized these resources to produce the lessons used to equip the selected group. The second phase was to develop a seminar, including lesson plans and a student workbook. The final phase of the project involved implementing the seminar for the initial training of the selected group. The seminar consisted of an introduction session, four lessons, a conclusion session and an implementation discussion. The seminar was conducted on four Sunday afternoons. How do pastors or church planters rediscover the essence of being church and doing church today? 'Being missional' becomes the most important rediscovery of this searching. A study is held to explore the theological rationale of the missional mandate and develop the theoretical presuppositions in order to make implementations in the context of a local church. This report reflects the process of developing a team of missional leaders who commit themselves to lead the church to become missional. The project director led the team to develop a formal strategy for Second Baptist Church of Houston, Texas, considering its multi-site context.
