Chapter 1 outlines the purpose, goals, context, rationale, and research methodology. Chapter 2 provides the biblical rationale for emphasizing the local church in training men for future pastoral ministry. Exodus 24:13 provides a biblical example of on-the-job training of a future leader in Israel. Second Timothy 2:2 is a New Testament description of local church pastors being directly involved in developing future pastors. New Testament ecclesiology is also examined by defining the church, understanding the universal church, and arguing for the primacy of the local church. Implications from Exodus 24:13, 2 Timothy 2:2, and New Testament ecclesiology conclude the chapter. Chapter 3 examines secular parallels and modern church models that balance the academic and practical training of pastors. This chapter discuses the background, needs, benefits, content, and challenges of various secular fields making use of intentional internships to train future leaders. The chapter also includes the rationale for and one example of a church centered model of training future pastors. Chapters 4 and 5 present the specifics of the ministry project. Organization of the evaluating professor, intern, Lay Evaluation Team, preaching assignments, sermon evaluations, and weekly meetings with the overseeing pastor are described. Also explained is the pre-evaluation/post-evaluation congregational questionnaire. Effectiveness of the project's ability to improve the intern's and the pastor's preaching skills is evaluated based on the data and discussions."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Southern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["55f1694e-f3f1-43ea-8ca9-da9a2899defe"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791128729560285184,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:04:26.758Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T13:43:16Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:46:04Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"7b700ccf-b582-4b45-beff-66909b36cf66","accessControl_ssim":["0cd88fa7-22b7-4999-8f15-4015dd6908b6"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Determining the most effective racial model to reach college students of African descent for Christ"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T13:43:15Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:46:04Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["2a72fe74-2875-486a-bf4d-a562ae9ae3a6"],"hasLease_ssim":["1fb0e43d-e476-4b16-b8ea-894bc2e9a127"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Bethel Seminary (St. Paul, MN)"],"advisor_tesim":["Herbert V Klem"],"year_tesim":["2010"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Dirke D Johnson"],"keyword_tesim":["Campus ministry"],"publisher_tesim":["Bethel Seminary (St. Paul, MN)"],"subject_tesim":["Church work with students","African American students"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project measured the degree that a Christian campus ministry's racial environment influences Black college student involvement. This dissertation shows how one church in Norman, Oklahoma intentionally developed a strategy to leverage electronic media resources in an attempt to further their chief discipleship goals related to helping people worship, connect, and serve. The hypotheses anticipated that participation in the electronic media program would reveal a positive relationship in sermon retention and application, experience of group life, and involvement in service. To determine the validity of these hypotheses, a pre-test/post-test was designed to evaluate the change in sixty demographically diverse participants after a one-month period in the electronic media program in July 2010. After the results of the survey were examined, the hypothesis concerning a positive relationship between participation in the electronic media program and sermon retention and application was confirmed. However, a statistical analysis of the data did not confirm the two hypotheses that predicted a positive relationship between participation in the electronic media program and an improved experience of group life and involvement in service."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["8322f611-a593-413a-8bcd-0011fba52dc7"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130707817398272,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:35:53.371Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T13:42:57Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:54:05Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"1a34a5cc-ca1a-41db-ad09-4aa980280e6e","accessControl_ssim":["f6e917de-7761-44a1-9464-1e4c288eb8bb"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Sojourn through spiritual and religious tension: a quantitative study of intercultural competence and worldview development"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T13:42:56Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:54:05Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["71e5a57b-43fe-415e-9912-3ae27c5731b5"],"hasLease_ssim":["f1195c7b-607f-426f-9ed3-c258c25ec01e"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Bethel Seminary (St. Paul, MN)"],"advisor_tesim":["Doug Magnuson"],"year_tesim":["2010"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Naomi J Ludeman Smith"],"keyword_tesim":["Worldview"],"publisher_tesim":["Bethel Seminary (St. Paul, MN)"],"subject_tesim":["Cultural pluralism","Foreign study"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Based on Bennett's developmental model of intercultural sensitivity, the researcher investigated intercultural competence and world view development and the relationship to undergraduate students' reflection of their spiritual and religious tension during a semester study abroad. A survey of 221 individuals from one church identified that reasons for resistance were consistent with findings of the literature review. A strategy for care ministry to address resistance was developed and professional counseling."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Bethel Seminary (St. Paul, MN)"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["fccbc3d7-874c-42e3-8a20-621b107c56c7"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132432104161280,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:03:17.780Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T13:42:23Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:12:44Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"8b2c2e10-fb00-4290-92e0-83f4942cb555","accessControl_ssim":["1ff9861d-b42b-4feb-94ef-477df3379172"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Building an inter-cultural church"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T13:42:22Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:12:44Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["4f02c61f-21a0-41a5-b61d-223a5b05a4b9"],"hasLease_ssim":["13cdd2ac-fedb-41ad-877b-684bf9496cab"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Bethel Seminary (St. Paul, MN)"],"advisor_tesim":["Herbert V Klem"],"year_tesim":["2010"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["James L Olson"],"publisher_tesim":["Bethel Seminary (St. Paul, MN)"],"subject_tesim":["Cultural pluralism","Congregations","Church","Social change"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project addresses the problem of how to build a sustainable reproducible inter-cultural church. This project is qualitative in nature; case study research was the primary methodology employed. A biblical theology of inter-cultural community was defined focusing on spirituality, hospitality, and missionality. Ethnographic tools were utilized to determine the emic perspective of the multi-cultural setting of Bethel Christian Fellowship. Characteristics of inter-cultural leaders in a multi-cultural setting were discovered. Transformational dynamics needed to shift a local church to an inter-cultural mindset were described. Synthesizing these insights the researcher delineated a strategy for building a House of Prayer for All Nations."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Bethel Seminary (St. Paul, MN)"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["fccbc3d7-874c-42e3-8a20-621b107c56c7"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132786464129024,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:08:55.724Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T13:42:15Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:58:12Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"82042ab3-8655-4b26-9b3d-e74ce84a5e91","accessControl_ssim":["3244e5b7-fa90-49b5-ad9f-d2bc1161bd14"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Understanding how evangelical churches assimilate people in recovery into the general life of the church"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T13:42:14Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:58:12Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["a9d45cbe-ec68-4886-b4fc-c8a8bd1f8ad1"],"hasLease_ssim":["de35dc3e-e481-4398-9697-68555593cec5"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Bethel Seminary (St. Paul, MN)"],"advisor_tesim":["Jeffrey A Matteson"],"year_tesim":["2010"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Mark S Vander Meer"],"publisher_tesim":["Bethel Seminary (St. Paul, MN)"],"subject_tesim":["Evangelicalism","Church work with addicts"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This thesis addressed the issue of recovery ministry and the church.
