Through qualitative research and considering the ministries of two illustrious, great African-American preachers, the dissertation demonstrates that congregational involement in society increases church effectivness,regardless of whether the style of ministry is priestly, as with Dr. J.H. Jackson, or prophetic, as was that of Dr. Martain Luther King, Jr. The creation of an effective church in its fullness is, of course, a long-term assessment. The conclusion of this project leads to the development of two primary initiatives to recruit future retirees to consider missions. The goal was to develop recommendations for recruiting and mobilizing among millennials for ministry to Muslims. Missiological and generational literature review determined the nature, scope and methodology for inspiring and mobilizing millennials for this specific ministry. Subsequently a survey and interview questions for person-to-person interviews, phone discussions and e-mail correspondence with millennials were produced. Results demonstrated specific preferences, strengths and weaknesses among millennials regarding ministry to Muslims. My research focused upon three areas of exploration: is God always present; can effective pastoral leadership skills be identified; and is balanced leadership in the church driven by sound theology? My purpose was to learn more about pastoral leadership as it relates to the life and mission of the church during times of disagreement and conflict. From Scripture, I focused on Moses as a model leader who faithfully led the people of God along a difficult journey of change, conflict and reconciliation. Building on a foundation of readings about pastoral leadership and church conflict, along with business management resources, my strategy was to prepare a series of questions to help guide my interviews with other pastors. There is a lack of empirical research the effect of a biblical context in which disciples are taught responsibility for their status.  This dissertation tested the five-principle context of faith, hope, love, humility, and peace; the concepts of uncertainty, paradox, community, authority, and anxiety respectfully.  This research measured the effect of a disciple immersed in this context. A mixed method research employed the 16PF 5th edition questionnaire and a survey. The selected churches demonstrate multifaceted ways for engaging a generation with a postmodern worldview in a post-Christendom milieu. This was a qualitative examination of churches from the West Coast to the East Coast. Thus two hypotheses were studied using the case study method in two 'vision achieving' churches: (1) There is an association between those hiring decision-makers in the local church who pray and the church actually fulfilling its vision; and (2) There is an association between those hiring decision-makers in the local church who use best business hiring practices and a church actually fulfilling its vision.
