We lift Christ as our focus in this struggle and journey, but how do we see him?  When we think of the church, we think of an institution that serves the needs of the members. I am submitting the thought that we should be placing our faith at risk by making ourselves vulnerable to the needs of others. In my project, I have wrestled with who Christ is to me and to the church. This Christology is the focal point of my work. As I engaged and continue to engage in the struggle for the soul of the church, this project represents my work on this effort.  Revising my view of Christ is central to this work. This project draws insights from contemporary Unitarian Universalist theology to articulate a Unitarian Universalist homiletic. This theology of preaching suggests that our preaching should invite and provoke listeners into participation, and through that participation, transcendence. The project includes sections on conversational preaching (McClure, Rose), process-theology preaching (Allen, Suchocki, Blosser), textual preaching for Unitarian Universalists, worship, preaching as liberation (Smith), and the preacher's authority and autobiography.  Implications for practice and pedagogy are suggested. The study used guided, open-ended interviews to explore the faith life of each person and discover how each had learned to love God and others, being transformed into Christ's image. This project focuses on the development of a tool for premarital counseling that addresses this problem. This report examines the use of such a tool with several couples from the pastor's congregation. Through the use of a pre-test and post-test survey, this project quantitatively examined the effectiveness of long-term sermon planning to effect spiritual growth. This manual examined twelve spiritual disciplines: Devotional Reading, Scripture Memory, Practicing God's Presence, Fasting, Retreat, Rest, Meditation, Confession, Contemplative Prayer, Worship, Silence, and Journaling. The research method included pre-test survey, post-test survey and deferred post-test survey, administered before and after the selected group walked through the manual. Many pastors leave their place of ministry before they reach their most productive years. Much of the effort to develop ways to sustain effective ministry focuses on the pastor. This study has focused on the spouse of the pastor. The particular focus of this study has been on the phenomenon of the expectations surrounding the pastor usually known as the role of 'pastor's wife'. This present study took advantage of an opportunity to access the data from the Pastor's Summit which was a qualitative research study funding by a grant from the Lilly Endowment, Inc. Through this present study it was learned that much can be learned about the phenomenon of the role of 'pastor's wife' through the study of systems theory. Those who find themselves in the role of 'pastor's wife' can also benefit from resources relating to family of origin, emotional intelligence, as well as how to identify safe people and develop healthy relationships. Pastors fail to preach the Old Testament because it has cultural, linguistic, and hermeneutical challenges. Pastors preach it incorrectly when they fail to connect it with Christ. The purpose of this study was to understand the Old Testament sermon preparation process employed by pastors who preach Christ-centered sermons. Christ-centered Old Testament preaching is often neglected, and therefore the subject is relevant to every Christian preacher of God's word, and by extension to all congregations. This study employed a qualitative design using a semi-structured interview process with six preachers from various Presbyterian and Baptist denominations.
