The author facilitated three six-week support groups in three different congregations, working with family members -- whether child, parent, spouse, or sibling -- who love someone with mental illness. The outcome of the group that went the entire six weeks supported the literature that peer-run support groups are an effective means of intervention. It also provided an avenue for people to discuss their own death and to begin the process of pre-planning their funerals as a way to celebrate their life story and take some of the burden off their family. Using traditional research methods and observations made from his ministry experience, the author created a workshop for members of his congregation. Working with terminal patients, the author created exploration sheets to go with each spiritual practice to guide the conversations between the patient and the chaplain in a hospice and palliative care setting. It presents research conducted by examining the staff listings found on congregational websites, analyzing denominational statistics on non-clergy compensation, and surveying lay church staff and pastors. It finds that an estimated 40,000 lay staff work in United Methodist congregations. A policy capturing study was conducted engaging thirteen congregations of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod. Six congregations had planted independent congregations.  Six congregations had planted multi-site venues. One congregation had used both models of church planting. The primary component for information gathering was a survey seeking information on how each church decided which model to follow. The participants in this study were Christian women from various denominations who had experienced an offense that they found so egregious that it impacted their ability to move forward. The project examines human and divine forgiveness. Using the Scriptures, workshops, movies, writings and one-on-one counseling sessions with these participants, the dissertation also defines some of these offenses as they relate to similar offenses in the Bible.
