The project director implemented the project with selected adult leaders in the Sunday school at Mount Zion Baptist Church who desired to increase their understanding and skills in using the four components of emotional intelligence. Before the six-session workshop, participants completed the Emotional Intelligence Appraisal [registered symbol] as a pretest and post-test. Workshop sessions explored the present need for emotional intelligence in ministry; self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, and relationship management as they relate to ministry. The research used a mixed methods design. The findings supported the following conclusions. The R2E program was successful in attaining its development goal. Yet, theological educators did not perceive mentored education programs like R2E as a possible alternative to formal theological training for evangelists or church planters. The author developed recommendations for denominational presence and support; a brochure for departing pastors with emphasis on facets of healthy leave-taking; a brochure for church councils emphasizing common reactions to pastoral transition.  The lament tradition is explored and serves as the basis of a prayer guide for members who experience deep sorrow, anger, or even delight at the prospect of new pastoral leadership. Persuasive preaching's goal is to convince the listener to align his or her attitude and action with the message of the sermon. This study seeks to discover a paradigm for this. The praxis director chose twelve individuals to participate in surveys and interviews. The director preached a series of four sermons focused on one general theme. After the sermon series, the director conducted a ministry program directly connected to the theme of the sermon series. As a whole, the participants experienced greater levels of perceived spiritual growth while participating in the practice of the spiritual disciplines. For many, these two influences are oxymoronic. Yet if missional theology and ecclesiology are correct, then the missional church vision must influence attractional megachurches for these churches to be who God called them to be. The praxis provided six clergy with an opportunity to deepen their understanding of the role of a rule of life and the practice of the spiritual disciplines in their preaching ministry. Together with a new emphasis on elders as spiritual leaders, this change fosters a renewed interest in the preparation and care of congregational leaders. This project proposes a new vision for elder selection and training, and retention that emphasizes the spiritual and perennial nature of the call to ordination as Ruling Elder. It incorporates spiritual discernment and sabbath-keeping as essential elements, including a redefining of the 'college of elders'. The author considered biblical, theological, and missional issues that arise from explicitly inviting all in a congregation to receive communion without regard to Christian baptism or belief. After surveying several studies of open communion, the author questioned clergy in the Episcopal Diocese of San Diego about their support for or opposition to it.
