Equally important is the actual occurrence of change when research demands change, regardless of how personally painful such change would be. A post-test evaluated participant experiences and the impact of seven different components on participant spiritual transformation. Results showed that prominent spiritual transformation occurred on the retreats. Of the seven components assessed, the Rime of Silence with God had the greatest impact. The premise was that pastors can easily and inadvertently neglect the spiritual health of their own children. A panel of clergy couples evaluated the resource, Pastoring First Church, on a Likert agreement scale questionnaire and with open-ended questions. This panel indicated that the resource met its goals based upon their high evaluations. Chapter 1 introduces the contemporary Filipino small group, its problems, the proposed solution, and the anticipated results. Chapter 2 investigates relevant literature. Chapter 3 introduces the first century church, investigates and interprets the context of the Greco-Roman house churches, and integrates the concept of the New Testament house churches with their Greco-Roman context and the content of their practices. Chapter 4 introduces the concepts of the twenty-first century church and small group, investigates and interprets Filipino small groups, and integrates the content of New Testament church practices with contemporary small group theology. Chapter 5 presents the results on the New Testament house churches and their implications for Filipino small groups. Exploring the facts, the causes and the problems of the low compensation of Chinese pastors. 2. Studying different aspects of the criteria in determining pastors' compensations. 3. Studying the biblical passages with respect to the materialistic provisions to God's servants. 4. Conducting a survey among Chinese pastors who are pastoring Chinese churches in the United States. 5. Most of them had very good jobs in the workplace and were in the leadership positions when they accepted the call. From quitting their jobs or taking early retirement, the process of becoming full-time ministers is a great challenge. Once they became full time ministers, the challenge of pastoring at churches is even greater. This dissertation discusses these challenges and how to overcome them.
