Issues addressed in the project include: 1) whether members of the local congregation have a clear understanding of the relationship between the sacrament of Holy Communion and the mission of the church, 2) whether a more complete knowledge and understanding of Holy Communion has an impact upon their perception of the church's mission, and 3) whether the way in which Holy Communion is practiced influences the way in which they attempt to fulfill the mission of the church. This project helps leaders to serve the Lord in faith and good courage while helping them avoid the spiritual dangers of serving self and the powers of darkness in meetings. The focus of this effort is on the moments following alarm or the awareness of stress that is being generated by one's heart. The researcher trained the five men and nine women of the Parish Planning Council on three theological foci: a theology of thinking in crisis, a theology of worship in service, and a theology of leadership in suffering. Each of these monthly sessions was reinforced by a weekly Bible study and a monthly opportunity for a one-on-one meeting where applications of the Alarm Model were made to current issues. The researcher found that a successful leadership succession depends upon a well-planned transition. The research consisted of a case study of four small independent churches. The researcher compared the traditional and apostolic approaches to leadership succession. Through grounded theory and coding of the data, the researcher identified factors that contribute to both the positives and obstacles of a good leadership succession. The researcher investigated how other Protestant denominations perform this task, what the Bible says about the subject, and ways the LSLS can be improved. A qualitative approach was taken that used case study and grounded theory methods. The case study approach was followed through interviews and site visits. Preparation involved research in understanding the larger culture of our country, Maslow's hierarchy of needs, the context of the ministry and understanding a clear theological purpose justifying the project. Some collaboration between the Jerusalem United Holy Church and other agencies was part of the project, especially in identifying the children and exposing them to positive experiences. The project involved training mentors for the children by use of a PowerPoint presentation and measuring the effectiveness with pre- and post-tests. The author used Jeremiah 29:7 as an interpretive lens through which to view biblical and Wesleyan sources. He also studied local demographics and three existing one-day events. Does prayer increase receptivity towards non-Christians -- an attitude change that leads to behavior change? Research focused upon qualitative analysis in case study methodology.
