It can be difficult for a layman to fill the role with confidence and joy. This project was designed to develop and orientation process that is both meaningful and manageable in a layman's life. The research included a survey of pastors in similar churches, a survey of participants before and after the retreat, and a study of literature on church leadership development. Relevant history is traced from the first through the twenty-first centuries. Core principles are presented such as the ultimate authorities, principles of interpretation, communication, contextualization, dialogue, diapraxis, and diplomacy. A Lutheran communicative contextualization process is introduced and emphasizes quad-cultural communication. The biblical basis for strategic planning, involvement of all God's people, and eight approaches in the literature is reviewed. The perspective of outsiders is assessed and interviews with Muslims provide insider perspectives. Using a combined approach that incorporated what was learned from a survey of pastors and what was learned from personal study, a three-month reading program was prepared. Four expository sermons were preached, utilizing what was gleaned from the reading program. Surveys were administered to six members of the researcher's parish after each preached sermon. The participant-observation method of research was used to create a model connecting the creative arts, the church and community groups that work with at-risk children and youth by making collaborative story quilts. This ministry project was conducted in two strategic locations: Milpitas, California and Shanghai, China.  The primary objective of the seminar was for the participants to gain a greater perspective of and to discover their role in missions.  Eighteen participants provided the survey data prior to attending the seminar and twelve completed the survey data after taking a trip. Most of these lay-people believe they do not have the spiritual maturity to lead. This project trains lay-people to be spiritual leaders with a shepherd's heart. The project is a ten-week course that teaches the participants to lead small groups, have compassion on others, and fill the leadership roles within the church. Ten couples participated in a process of conceptual education, practical training, and guided application of biblical concepts targeting enhanced spiritual discipline practices and improved couple understanding skills. Couples listened to five sermons, attended two training workshops, and completed an eight-week home practicum. Participants were to practice two spiritual disciplines twice each week for eight weeks and engage in two communication events (where they pursued understanding their spouse) each week for six weeks. The focus was on initiating and developing pastor support groups, as well as training and implementing a peer coaching network among pastors which seemed to be the best strategy for building biblical community. To prepare for the project I researched appropriate literature and established four pastor support groups that met for six months. Fifteen pastors were in the initial pastor support groups.  In addition, I enlisted six pastors to be trained as mentor coaches from which to launch a peer coaching network which now has eighteen ministers engaged. All the pastor support groups have chosen to continue meeting over the next six months. The ministry leaders were equipped in both classroom training and individual coaching sessions with their coach mentor while they coached two other coachees for a period of three months. The participants successfully acquired an understanding of the biblical foundation and principles of coaching while achieving a demonstrated improvement in the nine CoachNet coaching competencies. This project is designed to establish a children's mission school in a local church in order to make the connection with the community and seeks the outreach opportunities. Enlistment and training of teachers will be the first stage.  Second stage focuses on fourteen gathering sessions to conduct a children's mission school.
