However, in many rural communities, the leadership, both ordained and lay, are not sufficiently theologically grounded and educationally cultivated to meet the challenges of leadership. The author created this ministry tool to affirm, inform, empower and bridge the gap between a pastor and ministry leaders, particularly the deacon's ministry, in a rural Black Baptist church. The author dialogued with twelve physicians focusing on the topic of grief and faith. These physicians shared storied of patients' deaths that were stressful that are consistent with national and international research on the topic. The author of this paper interviewed ten senior pastors within the Tuckahoe Baptist Association to address the lack of intentional mentoring of associate ministers by senior pastors. Currently, there is no known model for training or mentoring associates ministers. The author analyzes the effectiveness of allowing a congregation to strategically die so that a new congregation can emerge in its place. The method is referred to as a church restart. The author attempts to establish the theological basis for the church's existence and investigate the applicability to the local church of 'losing one's life to find it'. Tongan traditional religion which formed Tongan culture and society still impacts Tongan Christianity. Traditional religious culture has a hierarchical structure which has influenced all segments of society and even Christian beliefs and practices. Immigrant churches have adopted the same hierarchical structure and added other social status, such as wealth and achievement, which create more physical and psychological barriers in the church community. The social issues add up to an unhealthy church, ministry, and Tongan community at large that causes divisions among families. This project relies heavily on historical research to identify the ways in which Christianity as a fledgling religion was able to succeed against the great religions of the Greco-Roman world. Finally, the project concludes that Christianity brought a gospel of hope to the world full of haplessness, especially to the masses in the Greco-Roman world. Christianity created a new community that served the needs of the destitute, generated a sense of belonging, welfare/health agency, and treated everyone inclusively with equality. The evidence of their obedience to this 'command' and the effects of their choice can be clearly seen in the New Testament church of the book of Acts. The author of this project has created a preaching/teaching response model based upon Acts 2:42 that has addresses the local church's declining health of 'making disciples.'
