The leaders developed three areas listed in Natural Church Development as being critical to a healthy growing church. A survey was conducted and then the leaders made changes to their model of leadership shifting from a 'top-down model' to a model that empowered others and shared authority. A second survey measured congregational responses to the changes. To counteract this immaturity, he designed 'Changing Christian Hearts and Lives,' group study material that offers a practical way for the Korean church to overcome this difficulty. This project focused on transition models and two case studies that illustrate positive retirement strategies. The report asked, 'How well can we prepare for transition, retirement, or change so that it is a 'non-emergency'? What does good leadership look like in times of transition?' At times their role is not clearly defined. As a result some care groups function like a social group without spiritual direction. This research project addresses the training needs of care group leaders by developing a training program that attends to the main functions of a care group leader. The threefold office of Christ as prophet, priest, and king is used as a model to guide the development of the training program. This research project facilitates the engagement of inner work on the part of the Christian leader using a formational process that includes spiritual direction meetings, group meetings, and classroom lectures. The process is guided by a theologically grounded model that consists of four domains: attention to God image, self-identity, spiritual practices, and ministry development. Lay and clergy leaders in congregations must find ways to share key pieces of not only denominational identity, but also fundamentals of the faith. As well, we must embrace ways of sharing our individual and collective spiritual narratives with newcomers so that they can both connect with our larger spiritual narrative and tell their own. This paper describes the efforts of one congregation's attempt to work with key lay leaders to help them identify pieces of their Christian and denominational identity, to train them in telling their own spiritual narratives to each other, to help them experiment in interacting with and welcoming newcomers (offering those newcomers threads of identity and narrative), and to see what connections, if any, happen between the leaders and the newcomers and in the larger congregation. This thesis tests the proposition that lay leaders will feel more comfortable,competent, and authoritative in welcoming and integrating newcomers into a congregation if they are grounded in core components of denominational identity, can articulate their own faith narrative, and have engaged in Action-Reflection experiments/exercises with newcomers within the context of a formational small group. Synagogue affiliation rates are on a steady decline, and American Jews, particularly younger Jews, have lost the historic value of affiliation. Something else is needed to reclaim the collective wisdom of lived theology (Jewishness). It has been impossible for Judaism to speak of God in relation to the world, devoid of Jewish practice. The data that were collected and analyzed revealed their needs in this church. Noteworthy findings revealed the adult women enjoyed attending and serving the church, women's retreats, learning about women's black history, financial help, and physical conditioning. Some respondents were not sure if they enjoyed attending mid-week services, Sunday school, women's conferences, fellowships, workshops for married couples or adopting a women's shelter.
