A number of at-risk youth were used for this project.  The research was done through qualitative studies, evaluations, counseling, spiritual training, and mentoring by parents, teachers, counselors and church leaders. The action research method guided this intervention and engaged thirty-nine pastors and a group of laity in training, surveys, and interviews which examined this researcher's practice in the Capitol District. The goal of this project is to understand the principles behind the Bible's small groups, to understand the activity of small group movements by early Methodists and the modern cell movement, and to find a new model for the Luz Methodist Church. This project that the Luz members and I have worked together on for RELUZ (to light up again) revitalized the Luz church and brought in new members. Substantial church growth and revitalization came from remodeling the church through small groups combined with the cell church movement. The Brothers of Taizé have a model of contemplative service which gives space for this by using simple songs, scripture and silence.  The author studied congregations who were already using the Taizé model to see the long-term effects on each congregation.  The author then assisted three congregations in the Washington, D.C. area to create monthly worship services using this model for the 2012-2013 academic year. Then he researches the Order and Rule of the Knights Templar, extrapolating the primary spiritual disciplines, to develop a modern day Order for Christian Military Chaplains.  The author tests the effectiveness of the Order through a four-week study. The researcher facilitated the work of the Kingsport District re-think team as they demonstrated the accomplishment of a district-wide strategy that equipped and empowered congregational leaders toward increasing the United Methodist witness. Furthermore, many black churches and denominations have opted to use a Sunday School outline with roots in white Protestant theology and are employing a pedagogy that negates the genius of black youth.
