Mutiple evaluation methods and tools including observation instruments, surveys, literary reserach, expert evaluators, and ministerial reflection were used to measure the achievements of the goals. The project director engaged expert evaluation, research, surveys, observation instruments, and pre- and post-tests. In addition to a supportive process the project sought to address the spiritual dimensions of the cancer experience.  Three models for reflection were tested: Jesus' Paschal Mystery, the religious practice of pilgrimage and the stations of the cross.  Using surveys, as well as discussion and observation over six weeks, data show an improvement in how the women saw their experience. Three examples of successful adoptions were studied in a multiple case study design. The researcher's thesis was that by studying past church adoptions we can begin to understand, describe, and possibly even quantify a process that will lead to more successful adoptions in the future. Results describe optimal conditions and best practices, as well as a framework based on John Kotter's Eight Steps for Leading Change.
