Utilizing primarily qualitative methods including ethnographic research and interviews, I tested if spiritual reflections on beauty and awe would lead to a desire for more worship outdoors. Scripture, John Calvin and more modern Reformed thinkers provided the theological underpinnings. Scientific thinking was also drawn upon. It was found worship outdoors may both increase openness to beauty and awe, and increase mental wellbeing. The breadth of possibilities for outdoor worship were considered. This thesis-project deploys an adaptation of Richard Osmer’s four-stage hermeneutical cycle to synthesize pertinent research in the social and clinical sciences, relevant theological literature, and data collected from a novel theological action research initiative designed to include local practitioners in the design, development, and preliminary evaluation of a pilot community mental health program. Based on an analysis of the data presented by this synthesis, this thesis-project argues that training and empowering local mental health practitioners is an indispensable component of any attempt to build a successful, Gospel-centered and authentically inculturated mental health system in the underserved communities of rural Haiti."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/downloads/ea37182c-8f65-4602-8a30-414f61b5cf92?file=thumbnail","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["admin_set/default-default-approving","admin_set/default-default-depositing","admin_set/default-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_ids_ssim":["ea37182c-8f65-4602-8a30-414f61b5cf92"],"file_set_ids_ssim":["ea37182c-8f65-4602-8a30-414f61b5cf92"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Default Admin Set"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["schn067@yahoo.com"],"_version_":1798609488202170368,"timestamp":"2024-05-09T20:47:54.142Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2024-05-08T19:37:34Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-08T19:37:36Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"197fdc34-9c62-46b0-aa89-7e8180cc9cff","accessControl_ssim":["9a772d19-773b-42d5-94f9-f224dbbd47b6"],"depositor_ssim":["benya_tokan@yahoo.com.br"],"depositor_tesim":["benya_tokan@yahoo.com.br"],"title_tesim":["Developing Leadership Formation for Base Christian Communities in the Brazilian Context: Toward a more Communal and Synodal Church"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2024-05-08T19:37:34Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-08T19:37:34Z","isPartOf_ssim":["admin_set/default"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["f7e22ce7-0760-4e57-9eb6-ce2935a98574"],"hasLease_ssim":["5680c504-7568-491e-a601-9f32739ccc58"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry (DMin)"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Catholic Theological Union"],"year_tesim":["2024"],"resource_type_tesim":["Abstract"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Nama, Benyamin"],"keyword_tesim":["Encouraging laypeople to participate actively in the church"],"subject_tesim":["Church leadership"],"abstract_tesim":["Base Christian Community (Comunidade Ecclesial de Base; CEB) represents a new way of being the church. It offers as well a new way to be more engaged with social issues in the light of the gospel, to empower laypeople, and to foster a stronger sense of community. With the active participation of the laity especially in liturgical celebrations and decision-making, it becomes a means of building a more participative, communal, and synodal church. Although The National Conference of Brazilian Bishops (CNBB) has presented some wonderful theories of pastoral ministries, some practical and concrete strategies of formation for leadership in the Brazilian context must be found so that members of the community, especially lay leaders, can serve their communities with greater intentionality and more confidence. Well-prepared leaders help maintain the community’s vibrancy in doing the mission of God and allow it to grow organically to serve the church and society. This thesis uses a methodology inspired by Richard Osmer. It begins with the exploration of the social-economic and political situation in the 1960s to help the readers understand the original intent of CEB, assess the current state, and determine how it can move forward. It then collects the opinions of people who already have many years of experience working as ministers of leadership in the communities. By comparing their opinions to the initial vision of CEB, this thesis develops some renewal efforts and articulates a more appropriate approach for leadership formation that strengthens the ability of small communities to fulfill the goals of mission and ministry in the current context and to assert solutions for a revitalized future. It contends Jesus is often reduced to personal agendas rather than revered as sovereign king. Drawing from experience in rural Pennsylvania, the author observes a sense of separation and among community despite claims of familiarity. The paper advocates for a shift towards communal engagement and authentic faith conversations, positing that public theologians must spark dialogue while recognizing their role as facilitators rather than sole providers of theological insight. Authentic relational growth needs different communication and a reevaluation of community interaction."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/NoC-US/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["admin_set/default-default-approving","admin_set/default-default-depositing","admin_set/default-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Default Admin Set"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["michaeldavidhaddox@gmail.com"],"_version_":1798437760757923840,"timestamp":"2024-05-07T23:18:22.090Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"D.Min.
