He established the need through personal evaluation and a survey, and then developed the training program and relayed the dynamics of the training sessions. The pastor achieved this by appointing four committees.  The history committee looked into how the church grew by caring in the past. The planning committee then took the work of the other three committees and developed three to five years of caring plans. Statistical analysis failed to confirm the hypothesis. Instructional objectives are stated as learning outcomes and defined in terms of specific behaviors that students are expected to demonstrate.  The author attempts to identify various aspects of the evangelistic task from which specific component skills are extrapolated.  Measurements are accomplished by the use of performance observation and by a pre-test and post-test in the form of a semantic differential taken by participants and two control groups. The workshop divided participants into two ministry groups and facilitated their exercising those gifts in ministry.  A church growth committee, comprised of persons with the gift of administration, developed plans for growth.  Gifted participants, possessing other spiritual gifts, made those plans a reality. Those indicating 'very strong' sense of belonging identified several motivating factors: strong worship and educational life; theological diversity; personal initiative toward getting involved; the feeling that the Christian faith--as expressed in this congregation--makes a significant difference in one's life; and that each member has some opportunity to affect the congregation's life.
