The structure was drastically changed in 1972 from the traditional elders, deacons, and deaconesses to a cabinet of seventy. Since its inception, there have been no attempts to evaluate the new structure for effectiveness. This ministry is to be expressed within all Christian contexts, including the Christian family.  This project focuses upon assisting some families of First United Methodist Church, San Marcos, Texas, to develop their spirituality.  In this project five to seven families participated in a process designed to enable them to express their spirituality in terms of enhanced prayer life, use of faith language, use of the Bible and of Christian witnessing. The report deals with the planning and coordination among several official helping agencies on the base. The main objectives of this project are to develop and lead a workshop which will enable church members to participate in the evangelistic ministry of the local church. Pastors, educators, and Christian lay persons must look critically at present practices and adapt programs to provide settings and opportunities in which the elderly can experience not only a continuing sense of personal enrichment and fulfillment, but also a sense of being needed by society and having a place in it. All persons currently holding leadership positions and persons who expressed interest in being trained as leaders were asked to participate.  A six-week course was designed to give the participants a new vision of what church leadership can mean as well as develop a better understanding of the specific tasks of leaders.  The program included didactic sessions, role play exercises, a field trip to Oklahoma City, and a planning retreat in Lamasas, Texas. By involving the members in a training program the project sought to achieve in participants: 1. awareness of personal attitudes toward Mormon people; 2. positive attitudinal change in attitudes toward Mormons; 3. greater knowledge of Mormon doctrine and biblical doctrine; and 4. an ability to personally witness to Mormons.  Sedlacek's Situational Attitude Scale was altered and administered to both a project and a control group.  The project group also took a pre-test and post-test on Mormon and biblical doctrine.  The doctrine testing instrument indicated that the third objective was clearly reached. Reporting by the participants indicated that the fourth objective was reached.
