The birth or arrival of a child awakens religious concerns and stirs a renewed interest in the church. Such can be an occasion for ministry with families. A rite of dedication commonly is comprised of three components: thanksgiving, promises and blessing. It is God who dedicates the child to himself in creation. The parents and congregation are invited to dedicate themselves to engage in the ministry of Christian nurture on behalf of the child. The Baptist emphasis upon the believer's faith-response tends to make ambiguous the status of the child too young to profess faith. In affirming the worth of the child, Jesus implied that the child may be a paradigm of the Christian who relies upon God's gracious initiative. The origin and history of the dedication rite among Baptists remains obscure. It appears there has been an 'instinct' within Baptists to affirm the child's place in the church through a dedication rite. Sample rites from the past and present attest to the rich and abundant possibilities inherent in advisor: John Charles Wynn.is s."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130602070605824,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:34:12.523Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:18:46Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T01:54:56Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"2c54e1cb-f8ed-4757-98ae-f38ddc5c774b","accessControl_ssim":["f5b87995-2284-4f3c-975f-d29d591539b5"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The renewal of the city church"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:18:45Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:25:35Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["203e30dd-38ca-4ca5-b598-ad9fc53cd775"],"hasLease_ssim":["36c1c5ec-a07b-4c04-860c-a1aa52e2abc8"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Boston University"],"advisor_tesim":["Norman E Thomas"],"year_tesim":["1982"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Daniel E Bonner"],"publisher_tesim":["Boston University School of Theology"],"subject_tesim":["Social change","Race relations","Church renewal","Clergy","City churches","Laity","Church membership","Leadership--Religious aspects"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project examines the renewal of homogeneous congregations into inclusive churches in center city, transitional, and pretransitional areas of North American cities. The author considers the problems and opportunities for evangelism in his ministry with those in Roman Catholic/Lutheran ecumenical marriages. In so doing, he states his understandings of evangelism and ecumenism. He also compares Roman Catholic and Lutheran theologies of marriage and reviews the historic developments regarding such marriages."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130682002505728,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:35:28.752Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:18:17Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T01:40:35Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"94aa74bd-a2f3-4b45-af91-21956f7bf044","accessControl_ssim":["b74d659f-86b4-4ee8-93de-f2d65a628372"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Marriage preparation and early marital adjustment: description and evaluation of the toward marriage program in Manchester, New Hampshire"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:18:16Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:28:59Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["f9c12419-884d-4a04-8fde-15a2a3b1f0a3"],"hasLease_ssim":["2a0caf9b-6b44-4900-80a3-e2eef2bcc112"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Boston University"],"advisor_tesim":["Merle R Jordan"],"year_tesim":["1981"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Florent Raymond Bilodeau"],"publisher_tesim":["Boston University School of Theology"],"subject_tesim":["Catholic Church","Marriage--Religious aspects--Christianity","Catholic Church. The student worked in an inner-city church for two years during which three faith-sharing groups were established. Through repeated development of such groups, this method proved to be very effective in communicating the essentials of the gospel.
