The dissertation will analyze various philosophies of ministry which lead to producing imbalanced disciples of Christ, study the First Epistle of John for Biblical principles of balanced discipleship, observe historical precedents from the Reformed tradition, critique some present day discipleship approaches, summarize a survey of church and parachurch ministry leaders and finally, propose some solutions for the thesis question. The author designed and conducted a process for a small group that incorporated practices of faith, explicit theological reflection and discussion of potentially divisive issues facing the Anglican Church of Canada.  She sought to discover whether such a process strengthened unity and to explore the function of the ordained parish leader in the process. It proposes that students use peer mediation in a Scriptural based program.  The project uses previous evaluations of peer mediation programs and results of a questionnaire sent to all Lutheran High Schools in the United States.  The research shows a need for scriptural based peer mediation.  This includes a peer mediation workbook with sample forms and letters.  In response the paper espouses ways to implement a successful peer mediation program. In group sessions and practical experience lay leaders deepen their skill and self-awareness, increase awareness of God's call on them to partnership with clergy in faithful sustainable ministry within the church and community.
