The model developed includes training for two hours in relational evangelism for all new members joining Aloma United Methodist Church during a three and a half year period. Also included in the model is a month long evangelism event called 'One by One' that consists of praying for one's unchurched friends and giving an invitation to the church-held event. This 'One by One' event was a seeker friendly worship (such as an Easter drama/musical or Sunday morning worship) that occurred once a quarter. Five significant findings emerged from the questionnaires and interviews. First, it is possible to build a self-replicating cycle of visitors through new members once they are trained and are motivated to reach their unchurched friends. Second, the relational evangelism training model helps new members to evangelize their unchurched friends. Third, there are significant impediments to faith sharing, such as the fear of rejection and the belief that evangelism is the responsibility of professionals. Fourth, new members can reach their friends for Jesus. And last, teaching and motivating new members to do relational evangelism produces evangelists."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Asbury Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["6c1e11e8-b66e-47b6-8fe9-6c546c20935c"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791134050663006208,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:29:01.358Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:53:32Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:25:46Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"0336e100-555e-4a2f-8e24-dd8e78f44585","accessControl_ssim":["1314abac-2db2-4e5e-9db0-8a3402cd2cf0"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Gathering a crowd for a first service launch"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:53:32Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:12:37Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["815d0a8a-5988-4b2c-93a6-8e67ac1ac2dd"],"hasLease_ssim":["40ef3cad-28cb-43cd-82e3-6daa88fd9e0f"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Asbury Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Burrell D Dinkins"],"year_tesim":["2001"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Edwin D Locke"],"publisher_tesim":["Asbury Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Evangelistic work","Church attendance"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Currently, little information is available about what has been observed to be the 'critical moment' in the life history of a new church: the first service launch. Subsequent to my appointment to begin a new United Methodist church in Palm Beach county, Florida's fastest growing western edge, my discovery of this void prompted me to consider this as a research subject for my dissertation. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to evaluate the ways a new United Methodist church planted in Palm Beach county, Florida, gathered people for its first service launch. Of particular interest was determining whether or not the development of open-style (join at any time) small groups would enhance attendance at the first service launch. The study primarily considered the quantitative components of crowd-gathering for the first service launch. A researcher designed questionnaire that doubled as an attendance registration form was used to gather the quantitative information needed for this study. The study identified direct mail and kindness-evangelism as the strongest factors enhancing the first service launch attendance. The findings also affirmed the importance of word of mouth communication to friends and family as integral in adding to the first service launch attendance. In this context, the findings also concluded that open small groups did not favorably influence first service launch attendance."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Asbury Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["6c1e11e8-b66e-47b6-8fe9-6c546c20935c"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791133849420300288,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:25:49.438Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:53:23Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:12:15Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"a2751c70-400a-45cf-8cbb-907360c9a6bc","accessControl_ssim":["87b6532f-ee51-4d1f-8029-9cbf6ef068ae"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Mission and contextualization among the Pinatubo Aetas in the Philippines: a tribal society in rapid change"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:53:22Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:51:55Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["3d3010d3-9ed0-4818-867d-975561a12445"],"hasLease_ssim":["5ba17cb8-4262-484c-92f9-81ddfcd1f6a4"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["United Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Paul Hertig"],"year_tesim":["2001"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Tae Soo Choi"],"keyword_tesim":["Pinatubo Aetas"],"publisher_tesim":["United Theological Seminary (OH)"],"subject_tesim":["Missions","Methodist Church--Missions"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This study assesses the contributions of the Korean Methodist Church's mission among the indigenous Pinatubo Aetas of Tarlac Province, Philippines. The study set out to evaluate the perceptions of selected Free Methodist clergy and ality concerning the way that changes are impacting new members' discipleship. This study used both qualitative and quantitative research, utilizing 46 interviews and 162 survey questionnaires with no comparison group. When new members have an increased understanding of the principles behind the standards of conduct held by the Free Methodist Church they also: 1) feel they belong to their local congregations and to God; 2) are growing in their spiritual maturity; 3) make the Christian conduct standards a part of their regular behavior; and 4) are growing in their relationships with Jesus Christ. A significant percentage of both clergy and laity observed new members feeling that they belong to their local congregations even though they have joined their churches under new membership requirements. This evidence shows that the new membership policies and procedures are starting to work."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Asbury Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["6c1e11e8-b66e-47b6-8fe9-6c546c20935c"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791133955609591808,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:27:30.707Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":13089,"label":"Unknown"},{"value":"D.Min.
