Because of the limitations of this project the specific areas covered are limited to the pastoral rites of healing.  In addition to the given rites, a survey of clergy, with episcopal guidance, was used to gather information. The researcher devised an eight week support group with two major goals in mind: 1) To help parents understand and work through grief that accompanies parent-child separation.  2) To assist parents in long distance parenting.  The theological research identified major motifs of separation in both the Old and New Testaments.  The study sought to construct a theology that engages the reality of separation within the context of creation and covenant.  The social/psychological research focused on Bowlby's process of mourning and Bloom's stages of bereavement as applied to the parent-child relationship. Also Bridges work on 'transitions' helped to reveal the perilous passages one negotiates in life. The research revealed the lack of liturgical understanding and connection of many adult Byzantine Catholics. It addressed the common lack of security and certainty in the spiritual lives of elderly believers.  Using narrative form and the text's own poetic imagery, the presentation communicated both cognitively and intuitively the heart of Scripture as a means of cultivating assurance and hope in Christ in those whose rational faculties are diminishing.  The study was evaluated by personal observation and by both formal and informal interviews. Building on a survey of relevant literature, a five-week adult Christian education course was developed as well as a survey that assessed the participants' understanding of the issues.  The class was taught five times with the survey being administered as both a pretest and a posttest.  The results were analyzed and the null hypothesis, this class will not have a significant impact on the participants' understanding of a Reformational worldview or the issues being raised by the information technology community, was not rejected. It also seeks to glean how those given to united prayer motivate others.  The method of research included a thorough study of Scripture, an intensive review of literature, personal observations, and extensive interviews.  The interviews included six key experts, as well as three focus groups.  The results of the research revealed that relationships were the key theme in encouraging united prayer. Anyone who wishes to motivate Christians to united prayer must develop environments where believers can build relationships. Twelve pastors, who had served churches for at least twenty years, were interviewed.  In addition, a study was done of the biblical teaching on the role of the pastor.  From the research, I found a positive impact on the pastor's family, the church, and the PCA denomination. I found three major areas of impact through the study:  a) the opportunity for stability, b) the opportunity for deeper ministry, and c) the opportunity for a broader ministry.  Further study in several areas could enhance our understanding of the long-term pastorate. Inverviewing elders from churches where long-term pastors have served would give a different perspective. Also the perspective of the wife or children of long-term pastors would lend insight to family dynamics.  A study that follows the career of a long-term pastor would shed still more light on the impact upon the church and future ministry.
