The strategy planning team met for five sessions to develop \r\na sports evangelism strategy that took into account best practices from other sports ministries and guidance from experts in the field of sports evangelism. The project director informed the team of data from a five-mile demographics survey, sports evangelism literature, and alternative sports ministries. In addition, the strategy team met \r\nwith two experts in sports evangelism via Zoom meetings. The project director led the team to develop a four-part strategy for using sports for intentional evangelism. To succeed in this purpose, I researched the field of discipleship to gain a foundational understanding of biblical discipleship. I examined demographic trends concerning current and upcoming generations of college-aged adults and distilled four competencies to effectively disciple college-aged believers. The competencies were framed within and expounded upon through the lens of First Baptist Church of Tuscaloosa, Alabama’s mission statement. Subsequently, I developed and implemented a four-week curriculum to equip selected adults to disciple college-aged adults. I employed evaluative measures to assess participants’ progress in the identified discipleship competencies. Third, the project director conducted a Hispanic community survey with a selected group using focus groups to discover what needs and \r\nproblems exist. From this research, I\r\ndesigned a leadership training course to equip Ascension campus church leaders in the best practices for disciple-making in small, closed, gender-based discipleship groups. To ensure the quality of the project, experts evaluated each goal product. The project director conducted research by survey to assess the spiritual growth of children and youth of Crossroads to create a spiritual growth profile. Next, the project director explored existing models of discipleship to determine best practices. Then, he identified a strategy development team and led planning meetings to review the findings from the research and design a discipleship strategy. The project began with faith formation research to discover faith transmission skills. The research included books, other ministries, and students and young adults in the ministry setting who continue to be active in their faith.\r\n\r\nThe next step was developing a curriculum to equip selected parents of Judson Baptist Church, Walker, Louisiana, in faith transmission skills. The curriculum came from the research conducted in the previous step. To help me gain skills in curriculum writing, I completed the book Design for Teaching and Training by LeRoy Ford. The new skills, combined with the knowledge gained from the research, resulted in a curriculum.\r\n\r\nThe last step was equipping selected parents of Judson Baptist Church, Walker, Louisiana, in faith transmission skills. The parents were taught using cognitive, psychomotor, and affective learning. This purpose was achieved by completing four project goals. The first goal was to explore BLBC’s internal demographics. I developed a Spiritual Health Survey designed to assess basic Bible knowledge, faithfulness in\r\npersonal spiritual disciplines, and engagement in disciple-making practices. This survey also captured denominational background, city of origin, gender, and generational category. The second goal was to explore methods and models of disciple-making to identify essential elements and best practices. I examined scholarly resources and proven models developed by respected practitioners in the field. The third goal was to create a disciple-making strategy. I recruited and trained a strategy planning team (SPT) that represented a cross-section of the church and led them in developing the strategy. This\r\nSPT included youth group members, ministry leaders, faithful laypersons, and a deacon. The final project goal was to present the finished strategy to the church.
