The object of this pastoral essay is to make policy recommendations about evangelism based upon this writer’s interpretation of the Pauline conception of reconciliation as a major biblical theme that has significant implications for evangelism. To this end, the paradigm chosen for developing this study moves from the historical to the contemporary theological; from inductive analysis to generalization; from viewing the Pauline letters as circumstantial writings addressed to particular situations to generalizing findings beyond those circumstances; from description (this writer’s understanding of what Paul meant) to prescription (what it can mean for us today)."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com","martins02@moravian.edu"],"_version_":1851860273188569088,"timestamp":"2025-12-18T15:26:20.113Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2025-12-18T15:26:15Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2025-12-18T18:44:09Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"2e76f735-88cf-4669-ad9b-871b74aef016","accessControl_ssim":["ab207c4e-845f-4e6f-aa83-1f70369837b6"],"depositor_ssim":["martins02@moravian.edu"],"depositor_tesim":["martins02@moravian.edu"],"title_tesim":["A program of training and a manual for religious lay leaders within the United States Marine Corps: a dissertation submitted to the facility in candidacy for the degree of Doctor of Ministry"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2025-12-18T15:26:14Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2025-12-18T18:44:09Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["a80736be-8213-4953-aaa6-9fc368ef0001"],"hasLease_ssim":["f039dab4-ab7d-4039-ad0b-f4ccb7586c10"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"additional_rights_info_tesim":["Paul E Irion"],"degree_tesim":["DMin"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Lancaster Theological Seminary"],"year_tesim":["1982"],"video_embed_tesim":[""],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. The acceptance and use of the Program of Training and Training Manual by the Marine Corps is an issue that will be handled separately from, and is not a part of, this project. The Program of Training and Training Manual included in Part II were composed without footnotes or references with the intent of enhancing its acceptance and use as a practical tool for ministry by Command and chaplains within the Marine Corps. The Program of Training and Training Manual are the results of personal faith and experience, academic research, professional consultation, and colleague cooperation and support. As such, the approach is unique in that nothing similar to this has been attempted, and materials and statistics within the military are either short on supply or simply not available. The method used, therefore, was based upon personal faith, commitment, experience, observation and reflection. To this added the theoretical, theological, and academic which gave shape to the Program of Training and Training Manual. The initial perceptions upon which this project was based were derived solely from the practical exercise of ministry within a military environment of religious pluralism."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["martins02@moravian.edu","ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1851872720921296896,"timestamp":"2025-12-18T18:44:11.195Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2025-12-18T15:26:08Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2025-12-18T15:26:11Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"954652d9-e328-45eb-bc89-2db3bd1d93c1","accessControl_ssim":["f344e02a-c8ec-479a-8d13-87ad9a6b2d90"],"depositor_ssim":["martins02@moravian.edu"],"depositor_tesim":["martins02@moravian.edu"],"title_tesim":["An instrument to identify what prospective members want to know about the church"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2025-12-18T15:26:07Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2025-12-18T15:26:07Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["04589384-2022-491e-ae1a-3507fc4b47f6"],"hasLease_ssim":["240bc94b-9560-46c5-ac26-e2b9381912bd"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["DMin"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Lancaster Theological Seminary"],"year_tesim":["1980"],"video_embed_tesim":[""],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. The instrument was developed in consultation with a committee of recently admitted members, and pilot tested with a group of prospective members and with a group of recently admitted members. The envisioned instrument and its administration is not, of course, an end in itself but part of a large process of education which it is intended to serve. It is not, however, the purpose of the project to specify or delineate such an educational process: the forms and contents of such a process may be many and the possible uses of the instrument manifold. Nonetheless, certain suggestions as to both the use and the limitations of the instrument have been included in this study. This study was done within the content of the United Church of Christ. By staying within the context of the denomination, the number of variables was reduced. However, the contribution of this study is not limited to the United Church of Christ, and the instrument which it produced is adaptable. The originality of this study lies in the methodology for achieving the instrumental objective; in utilizing the resources of a steering committee of recently admitted members to identify the content and language of the instrument; and in the validation of the content and language by pilot testing with a group of prospective members and with a group of persons admitted to a United Church of Christ congregation within the last two years."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com","martins02@moravian.edu"],"_version_":1851860265393455104,"timestamp":"2025-12-18T15:26:12.678Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2025-12-18T15:26:08Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2025-12-18T15:26:11Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"da877f6d-c030-485f-99a5-b3a1eff26747","accessControl_ssim":["9377b028-5b3f-4c11-9ee9-ec60c0d45d6b"],"depositor_ssim":["martins02@moravian.edu"],"depositor_tesim":["martins02@moravian.edu"],"title_tesim":["Divorce among the Church of the Brethren clergy: role expectations as contributory factors/a dissertation submitted to the faculty in candidacy for the degree of doctor of ministry"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2025-12-18T15:26:07Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2025-12-18T15:26:07Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["787d8d6a-2c49-4a4d-9bcf-c8c7a48d621d"],"hasLease_ssim":["4be9330e-6103-480d-b83e-eaa9230530cb"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["DMin"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Lancaster Theological Seminary"],"year_tesim":["1981"],"video_embed_tesim":[""],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. The purpose of the project is to gain insight into a serious problem the Church of the Brethren must address; namely separation and divorce among the clergy of a denomination which has always acclaimed strong family life. The basic focus of this project has been to discover what factors divorced clergy and spouses identified as contributory to their divorce. From this gathered data and the analysis of it, the church denomination at its national, district, and local levels may be able to deal with this problem more redemptively and creatively. Data will be presented and suggestions will be shared for the denomination to examine and evaluate. Designed to discover what factors divorced clergy and spouses identify as contributory to their divorces, this project was limited to those persons who were divorced within the past ten years. Focus was placed upon recent breakdowns because the results of the findings will be more relevant to contemporary society and to the changing attitudes within the church. While the interviews did include several persons with administrative jobs, the basic focus was on the parish pastor who lived in the parsonage among the people of the community where he served. The study focused more directly on the tensions and struggles within the parsonage family without judgment or simplistic answers."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com","martins02@moravian.edu"],"_version_":1851860265841197056,"timestamp":"2025-12-18T15:26:13.106Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2025-12-18T15:26:08Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2025-12-18T15:26:11Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"69ad4c5e-69fe-4145-b2f4-39119503b83c","accessControl_ssim":["f4b3c2ac-01db-4076-8952-737c3740abf1"],"depositor_ssim":["martins02@moravian.edu"],"depositor_tesim":["martins02@moravian.edu"],"title_tesim":["An ecclesiological rationale of a congregational planning process"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2025-12-18T15:26:07Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2025-12-18T15:26:07Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["5bf40bb1-79f4-4818-8515-21ac6ef4df3f"],"hasLease_ssim":["0ec23b54-2ef9-4ff6-9a3e-feaf1efda361"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["DMin"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Lancaster Theological Seminary"],"year_tesim":["1980"],"video_embed_tesim":[""],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. While some degree of effectiveness has flowed from this process, I have felt an increasing desire to have a more complete understanding of the theological position reflected in the planning approach I have followed. Thus, I have chosen in this Project Report to fulfill this desire by making an ecclesiological study that expresses my theological view of the Church and the relationship of that view to the program planning procedures I have utilized within my tradition of congregational church polity. Therefore, in what I am titling, “An Ecclesiological Rationale of a Congregational Planning Process,” I have sought to pursue my search in the following way. In the first major division of this dissertation, I am presenting the Project Report itself. In it I have made two divisions. In Part A, I deal with the concerns related to making the ecclesiological study I referred to above. Part B is devoted to evaluating the process presented in The Manual…My two-fold purpose for presenting The Manual is: 1, to provide necessary information about the process for conducting my ecclesiological rationale; and 2, so to describe the procedures that some other congregation may use them if it wishes."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com","martins02@moravian.edu"],"_version_":1851860265933471744,"timestamp":"2025-12-18T15:26:13.194Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2025-12-18T15:26:07Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2025-12-18T15:26:10Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"3e7ca913-d124-440b-994b-8df47aae35d9","accessControl_ssim":["f98abebd-e5d8-4ed2-a0e6-dde8a12cbf02"],"depositor_ssim":["martins02@moravian.edu"],"depositor_tesim":["martins02@moravian.edu"],"title_tesim":["What laity expect of clergy: a case study"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2025-12-18T15:26:06Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2025-12-18T15:26:06Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["d8941fcb-ffde-4362-b1c3-4dcc65638a1f"],"hasLease_ssim":["24220d49-498d-451c-870c-0ff5dceaf509"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["DMin"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Lancaster Theological Seminary"],"year_tesim":["1980"],"video_embed_tesim":[""],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. These roles are administration, denominational and ecumenical responsibilities, evangelism, and leading worship and preaching. The scope of the study has been limited to the expectations of the laity within the United Church of Christ in the Lehigh Valley. It has been limited to this group for several reasons. This is the denomination of which I am a member and the area in which I currently live. The churches were readily accessible to my study. The research was aided financially and developmentally by the Penn Northeast Conference of the United Church of Christ, which includes the Lehigh Valley as one of its major areas. The project is in response to several areas of concern within the practice of ministry. Job descriptions are a part of most secular employment. These descriptions help the employee determine the expectations under which the employee will work. There are probably parts of the job not covered in the description, but the description will be helpful in meeting or understanding the basic expectations of the employer or client in respect to that job."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com","martins02@moravian.edu"],"_version_":1851860264128872448,"timestamp":"2025-12-18T15:26:11.472Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2025-12-18T15:26:07Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2025-12-18T15:26:11Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"980580ab-33a5-436d-b459-52d377727e3a","accessControl_ssim":["6a3018a0-c6b2-4c7a-91f8-6f12da7b8df7"],"depositor_ssim":["martins02@moravian.edu"],"depositor_tesim":["martins02@moravian.edu"],"title_tesim":["The development of a model planning process: for the designing of alternative worship experiences in a free church tradition"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2025-12-18T15:26:07Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2025-12-18T15:26:07Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["8f51d587-7158-413b-8af7-dd4e6a187568"],"hasLease_ssim":["4021fad7-4953-4228-aab3-e3d11d48c8a0"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["DMin"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Lancaster Theological Seminary"],"year_tesim":["1980"],"video_embed_tesim":[""],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. A committee of four or five people who are concerned about the mission of the church and who have a deep commitment and an enthusiastic spirit would make the survey, evaluate and act upon the results, and monitor future membership dynamics. In acting upon the results, the committee would evaluate the existing programs in light of their effectiveness and meaning for the membership. If the leadership of a local church follows the suggestions in this report, several important changes may be expected to be the result. First, the research (the actual inquiry, data collection, and analysis) will help a church to discover the reasons why people are joining and/or leaving the church; to identify attracting and repelling factors and activities of the church, areas of specific needs of the people the church is trying to reach and strategies of the church in responding to those needs, the population objective of the church’s outreach, and factors influential in attracting and retaining future members; and to provide some candid data for making policy decisions. Second, policy decisions informed by the research will help to change congregational activities, emphasis, programs, pastoral priorities and activities, the direction and objective of the church’s outreach, and will help to promote attitudinal changes. And, finally, the problem is that some churches will continue to decline no matter what is done. In those cases, almost all that can be promised is that leadership will understand the root causes of the decline."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com","martins02@moravian.edu"],"_version_":1851860257300545536,"timestamp":"2025-12-18T15:26:04.961Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2025-12-18T15:26:00Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2025-12-18T15:26:04Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"19468d40-8706-4ec5-8ce9-788cc30fddb7","accessControl_ssim":["e454dd2b-2d43-4874-aa69-156869494cb9"],"depositor_ssim":["martins02@moravian.edu"],"depositor_tesim":["martins02@moravian.edu"],"title_tesim":["The use of touch and patients’ perceptions of its effects: in the practice of ministry in a general hospital setting"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2025-12-18T15:25:59Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2025-12-18T15:25:59Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["5a4b70e5-8273-4cbd-af9c-06146cba62b8"],"hasLease_ssim":["8f68a2f7-804b-42c0-bcdf-507ff2d5b77a"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["DMin"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Lancaster Theological Seminary"],"year_tesim":["1980"],"video_embed_tesim":[""],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. The study explored patients’ positive and negative feelings and thoughts about being touched and the places on their bodies where they were touched. The goal of the study was to determine whether physical touch was or was not important to the patients. If it was affirmed that being physically touched by pastors, physicians, and nurses was important to patients, such information could be helpful to those professional people in ministering to patients. The methodology consisted of taking a taped interview from thirty randomly selected, adult patients from the hospital census who had been visited by their pastors. A pre-designed, structured, interview questionnaire was used by the investigator in the interviews. Where appropriate, the chi-square goodness of fit test was used to determine the extent to which observed frequencies deviated from frequencies to be expected under the null hypothesis."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com","martins02@moravian.edu"],"_version_":1851860257515503616,"timestamp":"2025-12-18T15:26:05.165Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":13089,"label":"Unknown"},{"value":"D.Min.
