They were paired with ten mentorees for six months.  The pairs met weekly, guided by a mentoring manual.  The project director met monthly with the mentors.  Each mentoree's growth in planning, relationships, and leadership skills was measured with pre- and post-questionnaires.  The mentorees evaluated the mentors.  Covenants and journals were developed by participants.  Conclusions reached were: a support system for Hawaii ministers is needed; ministers grow in a mentoring relationship; and, mentoring is a valid support system. The research design procedure follows the nonrandomized control-group pretest-posttest design delineated from the Handbook in research and evaluation.  The research results indicated that there was no difference between the two groups concerning immediate feelings about post-high school plans (state anxiety). The research begins with an examination of nature of retirement in the church and society and how that has brought about the 'rise and fall' of the theory of disengagement.  The remedy presented is for ministry with and for the aging to be grounded in the Christian view of aging.  Aging is then examined in Christian perspectives, through an examination of aging in the Bible, Christian theological tradition, and contemporary society.  Chapter 4 reports the act of ministry itself, a life-review process \u0026 ten class sessions to be used by a pastor to nurture \u0026 equip aging individuals \u0026 groups to remain engaged in the worship and work of the church. Chapter 5 is appraisal of the act based upon the responses of two persons who participated in the act of ministry, interpretation of data collected, \u0026 an appraisal in retrospect \u0026 prospect. The research conducted for the project concentrated on the theological, historical, and practical rationales. Training lessons taught by the author helped the participant understand his giftedness. A spiritual gifts inventory showed each participant his gift or gifts.  A ministry-action plan allowed the participant to exercise his gift in the ministry program of the New Sarepta Baptist Church. The author used a method of research that incorporated an experimental and a control group.  Eleven teaching sessions, a pretest, and a posttest were used to accomplish this goal.  The results of the pretest and posttest showed an increase in knowledge and a positive change in participation and attitude in the experimental group.
