A theology of spiritual leadership is presented, discussing the scriptural and historical roots of spiritual leadership and describing the spiritual leader in terms of servanthood, empowerment, discernment, spiritual experience, prayer, and sanctification. This was tested through theological studies, interviews, questionnaires, congregational Bible studies, and dialogue with district pastors.  In conclusion, the author found a unanimous acceptance of the thesis, but mixed views concerning integrating preaching and healing during Sunday morning worship service since it would prolong the service. The African American male is the one group that suffers from homicide in a staggering rate.  He is more likely to die from homicide between the ages of 15 and 44 than any other American group. Methodology employed was the 'purpose in life' test to measure existential void; in addition, the author conducted interviews.  The evaluations showed that the thesis has validity.  Heritage Fellowship did not appropriate symbols of their African and African-American heritages, nor did they develop a meaningful ecclesiology. Some churches today are experiencing decline which can be partly ascribed to the unresolved conflicts within the church.  When conflict does occur, lay and clergy leaders do not have the training to deal with conflict and therefore react quickly and ineffectively.  The project presents a case study in which one church in conflict participated in the study and educational events which taught some basic components of conflict management: conflict occurs in God's family; conflict can be a positive influence and opportunity for renewal; and, conflict signals a brokenness in relationship which needs to be reconciled just as Christ reconciled the world to himself. Three devotional guides were written for Gloria Dei! Lutheran Church to use from Advent through Easter.  Thirty-five people were interviewed before and after the devotional books were used. The result was the discovery that the discipline of prayer creates a deeper hunger for God and awakens a call to be with God.
