This project explores the rationale and the biblical guidelines for the training of youth pastors.  It also presents a youth ministry concentration model designed for that purpose. Included is a study of the training of youth pastors in the Assemblies of God and more specifically at Southeastern College of the Assemblies of God.  Southeastern's prior effectiveness in preparing men and women to be youth pastors is evaluated through surveying alumni who graduated over a twelve-year period.  Others who are experienced in the field of youth ministry were asked to evaluate the youth ministry concentration model. This project utilizes an evangelistic and discipleship thrust to reach the lost and fallen. The project was developed with six parish couples who shared their stories of faith and commitment with couples who were preparing for marriage. This paper presents the theological understanding of hope in both the Hebrew Scriptures and the New Testament.  The issue of theodicy and the meaning of suffering is also discussed.  The different theological understandings of hope for this paper come from Jürgen Moltmann, Wolfhart Pannenberg and John Macquarrie.  A theology of dying and pastoral care techniques are described for the different stages of grief.  These techniques are helpful to pastoral caregivers in providing hope for those who are dying.  The community of faith and their importance in providing hope for the dying is not addressed.  Case studies are presented to describe how the author provided hope to the dying through pastoral care techniques. If the identity of deacons in the Church is ever clarified it will be only because the Church is willing to work with deacons to enable them to become sacraments and symbols of the ministry and service which Jesus so well demonstrated in his life.  The project involved the design, implementation and evaluation of a parish-based continuing formation program for seven permanent deacons.  In the design phase, a needs assessment, including the Deacon Perceiver Interview and the Myers-Briggs as well as systems analysis, were used to articulate goals for the continuing formation program.  In the implementation phase, nine training sessions were conducted which focused on the issue of identity development from the Whiteheads, Erikson, Zullo and Egan, and theological reflection skills.
