Criteria for inclusion in the study were that Ignatian spiritual directors: 1) be presently engaged in the practice of spiritual direction; 2) had personally experienced a Spiritual Exercise retreat; and 3) practiced the Ignatian method of spiritual direction. A semi-structured interview was conducted with each director. The data indicated that spiritual directors understood what resistance was but were less able to articulate how they handled resistance to change exhibited by directees. The data also indicated that object relations theory was irrelevant to the spiritual directors in their current practice."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Boston University"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["2d58bd09-76d0-4970-b257-d55229e0173e"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799718221902774272,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:30:44.996Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T02:09:53Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2025-12-18T18:51:29Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"e5ea1129-2909-4427-9540-243a4ac7c152","accessControl_ssim":["bdcfd093-6270-4b52-8247-37c0048811c9"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Measuring the personal integrity expectation of ministers as defined by laypersons"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T02:09:52Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2025-12-18T18:45:53Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["6b655d5a-9e71-42f6-8264-d0d3136da5cf"],"hasLease_ssim":["9444a94c-72b7-422d-9121-7b5763c24df2"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"additional_rights_info_tesim":["Loyde H Hartley"],"degree_tesim":["DMin"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Lancaster Theological Seminary"],"year_tesim":["1992"],"video_embed_tesim":[""],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. However, any individual or congregation contemplating developing a center should pay very close attention to the information in this study."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Lancaster Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["77231467-10ce-4737-858a-8cc38e70a4f9"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1851873180733407232,"timestamp":"2025-12-18T18:51:29.707Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T02:09:24Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2025-12-18T18:51:24Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"1cd2139d-e1e6-413e-9b54-ab3475825970","accessControl_ssim":["1f8ec32b-0aa8-4fc2-8b32-60d7de6bea79"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Coherence: a critical key to authentic church-relatedness in a small liberal arts college"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T02:09:23Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2025-12-18T18:45:48Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["93a5c3c2-32e7-4c07-92df-7eec50f3b282"],"hasLease_ssim":["38c6a288-23a9-4f3e-935f-9a52c281a1f1"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"additional_rights_info_tesim":["Donald Freeman"],"degree_tesim":["DMin"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Lancaster Theological Seminary"],"year_tesim":["1992"],"video_embed_tesim":[""],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. Methodologically project data was derived from survey and interview material using one school as a case study. The statistical analysis was related to church-relatedness and coherence by reviews of literature in the fields of theology, epistemology, faith development, church-relatedness, and college curriculum development. The findings supported the important role of curricular and co-curricular coherence in church-related higher education. A model for imaging coherence and church-relatedness was offered along with alternative curricula for incorporating coherence within the curricular structure of the college."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Lancaster Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["77231467-10ce-4737-858a-8cc38e70a4f9"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1851873176022155264,"timestamp":"2025-12-18T18:51:25.214Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T02:09:24Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2025-12-18T18:51:25Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"b33e01d8-c3a1-4591-af34-20df3c35fc93","accessControl_ssim":["6598a922-56af-48c0-8547-25a77849b622"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Mysticism and ministry: a descriptive inquiry into varieties of mystical experiences among United Church of Christ people.."],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T02:09:24Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2025-12-18T18:45:50Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["98b2fbf1-ae15-4275-b849-16603279042b"],"hasLease_ssim":["bb0394cf-59f2-43e0-9511-066dd2f77781"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"additional_rights_info_tesim":["Donald Freeman"],"degree_tesim":["DMin"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Lancaster Theological Seminary"],"year_tesim":["1992"],"video_embed_tesim":[""],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. Data was gathered through surveys, written descriptions, and by personal interviews. The research shows that there is a wide variety of experiences, many related to death and dying, regarded as important to faith; that persons experienced paranormal events; that the classic mystical experience is rare. The report suggests clergy need to be sensitive to descriptions of unusual experiences by parishioners and recommends specific ways in which this sensitivity may be demonstrated."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Lancaster Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["77231467-10ce-4737-858a-8cc38e70a4f9"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1851873177167200256,"timestamp":"2025-12-18T18:51:26.306Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T02:09:24Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2025-12-18T18:51:27Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"e32a6c31-8265-412c-a2a3-8520ec9d104d","accessControl_ssim":["65cb447f-e748-4f42-ba6d-f24d20316c04"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Teaching adults the meaning of 'Jesus Christ' based upon issues contained in the Chalcedon debates"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T02:09:24Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2025-12-18T18:45:51Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["12320a96-346a-4af7-852d-07b6b72ca537"],"hasLease_ssim":["ccfba89a-ebec-4df8-a5c6-8545246f0fe7"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"additional_rights_info_tesim":["Richard F Vieth"],"degree_tesim":["DMin"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Lancaster Theological Seminary"],"year_tesim":["1992"],"video_embed_tesim":[""],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. Five hypotheses were tested: 1) participants will show a greater acceptance of the humanity of Jesus Christ, as indicated in a comparison of their pre- and posttest questionnaires and on their end-of-session questionnaires; 2) participants will be less likely to believe that Jesus was 'complete in his deity,' and more likely to believe that he was 'complete in his humanity;' 3) participants will develop a distinction between 'Jesus' and 'the Christ;' 4) an increased integration of their faith; and 5) a greater clarity in their understanding of Jesus Christ.
