This approach has confused the pastoral identity of some students. The present study explores the use of religious history in clinical settings to clarify pastoral identity and enhance professional growth.  A basic clinical unit was designed to make extensive use of religious history. Experienced ministers and recent ministerial graduates were interviewed regarding their experiences of being supervised during preordination education. The program is broken into three distict components: 1) preaching; 2) teaching; and 3) testing.  The project requires a complete month of active participation by the fellowship.  The report presents as well a foundation from which to approach spiritual gifts.  Fundamentally, the report expresses a broader definition of spiritual gifts so as to include all of God's gifts.  These gifts are expressed in terms of creation, humanity, salvation, and history.  In order to achieve the above, the report also includes a section that details a particular understanding of the gifts given in history. Research into the process of Indochinese migration into Australia also is included.  A survey was conducted among churches in Sydney to discover the distinctive elements of Chinese evangelism.  A training program was developed based on the findings. This program was tested and retested. The research focused on how ten patients responded to the process of a chaplain obtaining a spiritual life review, and then compared their physical, cognitive, and affective responses to twenty patients in two control groups.  All thirty patients' responses were measured at the beginning and the conclusion of the study.
