Examples of potential influences will include two books from the Apocrypha, Ben Sira and Wisdom of Solomon, and a selection from the Dead Sea Scrolls. This research addresses a gap between the care clinicians and ministers offer to veterans and the religious need that some combat veterans have. Given the presence of combat veterans within the church, how do ministers of the Word fill this gap with biblically-based pastoral care? Addressing this question utilized a qualitative design with semi-structured interviews and seven Christian veterans from the Vietnam War, the Gulf War and the War on Terrorism. Research questions guiding the interviews were (1) How did Christian veterans experience God during combat? (2) How did combat shape the faith of Christian veterans upon their return home? (3) How have pastors helped Christian veterans engage God? Three areas of literature were explored: spiritual and moral injury, the challenges of providing pastoral care within this context and a survey of Lamentations 3. Findings revealed that the care which ministers of the Word provided to Christian combat veterans was individualized and well received. However, the religious care specific to the effects of combat was primarily provided by combat veterans to one another resulting in three primary findings. First, the binary gap between the church and the clinic was expanded to include veteran organizations creating a triangular network of care. Second, feelings of spiritual distress were surpassed by the presence and protection of God during and after combat. Third, the ministry of these combat veterans to other veterans resembled the spiritual progression of the speaker in Lamentations 3 and the willingness to explore the need for confession and forgiveness with other combat veterans in ways that therapists or ministers typically cannot. The significance of these findings reveals a connection between the role of the speaker in Lamentations 3 and combat veterans who have suffered spiritual distress and yet experienced God’s hope. These veterans are the ones who engage their community of veterans as shepherds and invite them to engage God through confession. The task for the minister of the Word is to recognize the uniqueness of this ministry and equip its churches and veterans with scriptural encouragement and tangible support to these shepherds."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"related_url_tesim":["https://www.covenantlibrary.org/etd/2024/George_Seth_DMin_2024.pdf"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["admin_set/default-default-approving","admin_set/default-default-depositing","admin_set/default-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Default Admin Set"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["library@covenantseminary.edu"],"_version_":1829571132964995072,"timestamp":"2025-04-16T14:49:59.547Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2025-04-16T14:44:33Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2025-04-16T14:44:35Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"9bc041ba-e2d3-4874-9a19-965b87c8983b","accessControl_ssim":["a7f6eabd-1795-4fa2-b74a-4d4463f8880b"],"depositor_ssim":["library@covenantseminary.edu"],"depositor_tesim":["library@covenantseminary.edu"],"title_tesim":["Mark as Peter's testimony : the narrator and the witnesses in the Gospel of Mark"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2025-04-16T14:44:32Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2025-04-16T14:44:32Z","isPartOf_ssim":["admin_set/default"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["e1371e2c-ac1b-4d6d-a107-66adddaef496"],"hasLease_ssim":["b291e7be-747a-4fbd-8e19-2b8dbc1ccbb1"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Master of Theology"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Covenant Theological Seminary"],"year_tesim":["2024"],"resource_type_tesim":["Thesis"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Bychkov, Oleksandr"],"subject_tesim":["Bible. Mark","Peter, the Apostle, Saint"],"abstract_tesim":[" Traditionally the close connection between the origin of the Gospel of Mark and St. Peter was recognized in the Christian church, primarily due to Papias’ witness. In the first half of the 20th century, this view was challenged and almost rejected due to the developments of so-called form criticism. Recently, several scholars argued for the validity of Papias’ tradition and the importance of eyewitnesses’ testimony, specifically Peter’s, for the Gospel’s origin. Thus, Richard Bauckham’s recent Jesus and the Eyewitnesses produced an intensive discussion among scholars. Some asked the valid question: does the Gospel itself support the claim of its possible origin from Peter’s (and others’) eyewitness testimony? This thesis seeks to answer this question and look for Mark’s Gospel internal evidence, which may imply its connection to Peter. The methodology utilized is provided by narrative criticism. The main topic of the research is the exploration of the relationship between Mark’s narrator and Peter as his possible key witness. Three features of Mark’s narrative, namely the narrator’s ability, point of view, and focalization, are put at the center of the investigation. Exploring these features allows drawing conclusions regarding the relationship between the narrator, Peter, and other disciples, and the implied reader in the spheres of knowledge, perception, psychology, and ideology. The study of the narrator’s ability revealed that it is possible to see the narrator as one with limited knowledge and dependent on the disciples in the sphere of knowledge. As the disciples had privileged access to Jesus, they were able to know him deeply. Jesus himself had exceptional knowledge abilities and openly revealed this knowledge in front of his disciples. It is argued that the disciples can serve as a medium between Jesus and the narrator and transfer Jesus’ knowledge to the latter. The study of point of view demonstrated the ongoing ideological conflict between Jesus and the disciples. This conflict affected the relationship between Jesus and the disciples and was revealed in the difference between Jesus’ and the disciples’ understanding and perceiving things. The study of focalization showed that the narrator constantly emphasizes the disciples’ perception, and both the narrator and the implied reader share their perception to a great extent. However, they are invited to learn Jesus’ perception. The conflict between the disciples and Jesus, if not resolved, would prevent them from right interpretation of the Gospel events, which is important for witnessing. It was shown that the conflict was resolved at the final point of Peter’s presence in the Gospel (14:72). At this moment, he learned to see the Gospel story in Jesus’ way. Passages 1:29–39 and 14:72 make the Gospel’s inclusio. This structure invites the implied reader to enter the Gospel story alongside Peter and then revisit it with him again after his vision is healed. Peter’s level of awareness, the emphasis on his perception, his role in the disciples’ conflict with Jesus, and its resolution make him an excellent candidate not only for Mark’s narrator’s key witness but that of Mark himself. Moreover, due to his experience in 14:72, the Gospel may be seen as Peter’s confession and testimony."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"related_url_tesim":["https://www.covenantlibrary.org/etd/2024/Bychkov_Oleksandr_ThM_2024.pdf"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["admin_set/default-default-approving","admin_set/default-default-depositing","admin_set/default-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Default Admin Set"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["library@covenantseminary.edu"],"_version_":1829570793863905280,"timestamp":"2025-04-16T14:44:36.155Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2025-04-16T02:38:49Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2025-04-16T02:38:51Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"ff139d1c-2ec6-4f25-9577-3c89446f3065","accessControl_ssim":["59592884-7840-423c-aef1-5840a683bf61"],"depositor_ssim":["library@covenantseminary.edu"],"depositor_tesim":["library@covenantseminary.edu"],"title_tesim":["Contours of leadership : from the life and ministry of John R. Seven individuals who served with Stott at various points throughout his over sixty years of ministry leadership were interviewed. The study reviewed three distinct areas of relevant literature: (1) a biblical framework for ministry leadership through the lens of the Apostle Paul in 1 \u0026 2 Timothy and Titus, (2) succession planning from long-term pastorates, and (3) core ministry practices of leader development in churches. The study revealed that Stott's leadership was characterized by a robust commitment to biblical truth, a remarkable focus on long-term leadership development, and an intuitive approach to succession planning. Participants highlighted Stott's personal humility, incisive mind, and discipline. His leadership disposition of “gentle seriousness” cultivated healthy institutions, mission-oriented teams, and the development of resilient leaders. The study found three key themes from the tenure of Stott: (1) a posture of “gentle seriousness,” (2) a life of discipline and delight, and (3) a long view of leadership development. Primary challenges included diminished relational connections over time, loss of aspirational leadership, and complacency. Pastors navigated challenges through singular loyalty to the CPN. Hopes for the future centered around prayer, compelling rationale for planting, unified philosophy, clear metrics, new models, sustainable funding, dedicated leadership, training and coaching. Evangelism is not only a practice of the church, but the process by which the Holy Spirit offers an invitation into the loving reign of God as proclaimed by the pilgrim-priests of the gathered church of Christ."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC-NC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/downloads/8c1f585e-6687-4b41-ad4b-da6330fb880f?file=thumbnail","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["admin_set/default-default-approving","admin_set/default-default-depositing","admin_set/default-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_ids_ssim":["8c1f585e-6687-4b41-ad4b-da6330fb880f"],"file_set_ids_ssim":["8c1f585e-6687-4b41-ad4b-da6330fb880f"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Default Admin Set"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["mgalica@pts.edu"],"_version_":1829022825052110848,"timestamp":"2025-04-10T13:34:52.372Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2025-04-09T20:02:30Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2025-04-10T13:53:07Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"5a22a775-df8f-4f1c-8e9c-68c62dec89f3","accessControl_ssim":["aad42d2b-d865-4bad-a85d-f7619e29971c"],"hasRelatedMediaFragment_ssim":["3505fb04-e67b-4c33-8a50-8e0ddcff3166"],"hasRelatedImage_ssim":["3505fb04-e67b-4c33-8a50-8e0ddcff3166"],"depositor_ssim":["revntuala5@gmail.com"],"depositor_tesim":["revntuala5@gmail.com"],"title_tesim":["Serving God with Our Whole Lives: A Study of Stewardship"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2025-04-09T20:02:28Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2025-04-10T13:53:02Z","isPartOf_ssim":["admin_set/default"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["4b99664c-fdac-4dd5-acc9-79dc78675687"],"hasLease_ssim":["904a8fe3-aa4d-4048-9114-27b345107188"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Pittsburgh Theological Seminary"],"year_tesim":["2025"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. Christian parents preach to their children, with or without formation. However, the difference lies between have and have-not faith, formed and not formed. This thesis project is to design a Christian parent formation program based on community, communion, and commission (the 3C). It encourages partnership between Christian parents and between ordained ministers and Christian parents. The goal is to enable Christian parents to be effective Gospel preachers in their domestic Church, a term coined by St. Augustine Hippo in the 4th century and affirmed by the Second Vatican Council. \r\n\r\nThe first chapter outlines the thesis project’s genesis, ministerial context, \r\nproblem, purpose, hypothesis, assumptions, and limitations. Chapter 2 explores the interdisciplinary foundation. The extensive sociological studies of the 2005 Vern L. Bengtson report and the 2021 Christian Smith report anchored parents’ significant role in intergenerational faith transmission. Chinese culture and immigrant study provide further context for the foundation. Chapter 3 investigates the theological framework based on viewing the Christian family as a domestic Church, a fruit of the Second Vatican Council. This chapter further explores the relationship between the Church and the domestic Church and the practices of the domestic Church. Chapter 4 establishes the thesis project’s homiletic foundation. This chapter discusses Christian parents as preachers in the domestic Church and their preaching as dialogue, witnesses, and storytelling. \r\n\r\n\tTen mothers and six fathers participated in the 3C Parent Preacher Formation Program from January 16 to April 4, 2024. Chapter 5 presents this pilot project in detail. Chapter 6 discusses the result of the pilot project, including qualitative and quantitative data, and how the result supports the hypothesis laid out in Chapter 1. The chapter also reflects lessons learned, areas of improvement, and future opportunities.\r\n\r\n"],"license_tesim":["https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/"],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/downloads/38bd733a-a57c-4ac5-a955-4552fb623559?file=thumbnail","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["admin_set/default-default-approving","admin_set/default-default-depositing","admin_set/default-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_ids_ssim":["38bd733a-a57c-4ac5-a955-4552fb623559"],"file_set_ids_ssim":["38bd733a-a57c-4ac5-a955-4552fb623559"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Default Admin Set"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["registered","public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["paul01.ma@gmail.com"],"_version_":1828241101761282048,"timestamp":"2025-04-01T22:29:42.948Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":13089,"label":"Unknown"},{"value":"D.Min.
