The practice of ministry in a congregation made up of people of a variety of ethnic origins will encounter problems resulting from ethnic and cultural differences.  In order for the congregation to be integrated into a working and worshipping whole, these differences must be identified and appreciated.  In-depth interviews of eight family units chosen from the traditional congregation and recent-comers from Guyana were conducted, followed by three group meetings.  Transcripts were analysed, and the findings compared with the experience of similar congregations. Ten men and women in the Dalton District of the North Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church committed four weeks to the project.  The district superintendent was the convener, a co-participant, and provided leadership by precept and example.  Sessions included theological foundations of wellness, a medical evaluation of each participant, identification of healthy eating and exercise habits, and application of learnings to the local church and community.  All participants met at least one of their goals relating to diet and/or exercise. God has commanded Christians to love others.  Love must be demonstrated through behavior, and behaviors are learned through opportunity and practice.  This project gives participants a format which facilitates such practice.  The major method to accomplish the thesis is a devotional guide which daily highlights a characteristic of love, and provides opportunity for participants to contract ways to demonstrate that characteristic. Many part-time pastors and church employees receive financial support, but spiritual and emotional support is lacking.  Bivocational ministers and their spouses were enlisted to participate in a support group.  The purpose of the group was to guide participants in developing supportive relationships with one another. As a result, participants were to grow professionally and personally.  The Taylor-Johnson Temperament Analysis and interviews with a professional counselor provided objective data for evaluation.  Case studies were used to help group members analyze and theologically reflect on each experience. The chaplain asked fifty-two students to form nine counseling groups focusing on their interpersonal conflicts.  In six sessions they were trained to use an ethical model to resolve their conflicts. The process involved determining the level of awareness toward church starting within the Association, determining the effectiveness of the Associational Director of Missions in working with the council, and developing a structure for the council.  The project resulted in the development of a manual of operations which included job descriptions, denominational resources, and budget procedures related to the council's work. The author envisioned retaining and training young married professionals as the answer to this dilemma.  The recent influx of young married professionals into his church gave the author opportunity to implement a discipling project.  The participants were trained in three areas: interpretation of the Bible, teaching methodology, and understanding the pupils.  The entire process took twenty weeks to complete.  Three kinds of evaluation instruments were employed: pre/post-tests, pre/post-session teaching assignments, and questionnaires.
