Assuming that some uses are better than others, the project seeks indices for evaluating materials, personnel and programs related to the lectionary. A form of factor analysis is judged the most appropriate method for discovering the indices.  An interpretive perspective is illuminated by a contrast between two distinct theological currents within contemporary Catholicism.  The lectionary is situated within one current, as are its appropriate religious education uses.  Data gathered in sixty-one interviews are reported and interpreted. A curriculum was designed that consisted of six sessions on the biblical and theological bases for shared ministry.  A study of similar churches was conducted in four sessions.  Recommendations to increase lay involvement were formulated in the final two sessions.  The project was evaluated by the experimental and descriptive survey methods. Conference participants were pretested and posttested to measure knowledge acquired in the conferences.  Postconference and follow-up questionnaires also were submitted to participants. Program design resources included materials from secular supervision, seminary field education, and clinical pastoral education programs. Experimental and descriptive research methodologies were used with control and experimental groups.  A questionnaire determined spiritual disciplines that needed improvement, and a training manual was developed based upon the results. The experimental group received seven weeks of discipleship training from the project director.  This group then trained others one-on-one using the same material.
