This project is designed as a means for developing mature church members, helping them grow in their expression of Christian discipleship, enabling the church to express its mission to the world, and assisting church members to make the promises of their vows realities in their lives.  This project describes a series of six sessions with twelve adult lay persons in which the essential nature of church membership was explored from biblical, theological and historical perspectives.  The project is evaluated by the use of individual presession and postsession interviews. This study reviews the thought of major thinkers from the fields of philosophy, theology, and architecture regarding the affective nature of such places.  An experimental planning workshop invites a religious congregation's members to identify symbolic expression desired in a sacred space. The project tests the usefulness of architect Chris Alexander's pattern language theory as the basis of a methodology for this purpose. The null hypothesis stated that there will be no significant differences in selected personality traits between people who continue in a disciple-making ministry and people who do not.  The method involved administering a biographical data sheet, a twenty-question religiosity survey and the multidimensional personality questionnaire to a sample group of 120 individuals who had been involved in disciple-making ministry.  The mean scores of the sample group were compared with the general population mean scores. Through observation and reflection, participating pastors clarified and defined their perceptions of their churches.  They interpreted their observations through stories, characterizations, reflection upon interviews and the development of metaphors. The project tested a model of pastoral leadership focused upon the roles of 'reflective guide' and 'mission initiator.' Analysis of the pastors' perceptions and definitions of ministry issues confirmed that when identity is clarified, potentials and boundaries are seen more clearly. Teaching methods included patient visitation, group supervision, didactic seminars, and ministry reporting. Experimental and descriptive research methodologies were used with a control and an experimental group.  Student growth was evaluated in four areas.  Statistically significant growth (p= .o5) was measured in the area of self-concept.  No statistically significant change was demonstrated in the students' attitude toward hospital ministry. The ten topics covered in group study sessions were: assurance of salvation, the lordship of Christ, the need for spiritual growth, a daily quiet time, prayer, Bible study, the church, witnessing, God's will, and personal relationships. The project director of missions conducted a four-day divorce recovery seminar.  Biblical materials concerning divorce were presented by the director.  A psychologist and a medical doctor spoke on the psychological and medical problems resulting from divorce. Three enabler training sessions followed the seminar.  The enablers led discussions in three discussion/support group sessions.  Ongoing discussion/support group sessions were scheduled.
