The thesis states that training a core of disciplers can lead to a renewed laity that will train others in discipleship.  The strategy consists of devising a discipleship model based on Ephesians 4:11-16.  Eight participants were trained in theology, church growth, leadership skills, and group dynamics.  They were exposed to the four dimensions of church growth.  Evidence indicated that the group was renewed and grew collectively in all four areas but not individually. The research involved a Likert-type questionnaire, open-ended comments and personal interviews (39) completed by a combined total of 204 persons, 60 pastors and 144 lay persons.  The study demonstrates that the pastoral relations committees are an effective means of support and feedback for ministry and serve, secondarily, but helpfully, in the area of personnel matters.  The pastoral relations committees theological framework relies heavily upon 'unconditional acceptance'.  The author recommends further theological development focused on the stewardship of gifts. Statistical studies revealed that the suicide rate, for the past five years, has been 2.8 times the state average.  A program module was designed to raise the level of awareness, of the danger signs of suicide, in those serving in positions of leadership in the Indiana National Guard.  The research includes a study of the context of ministry, psycho-social and biblical-theological aspects of suicide. Secondarily, the study provides a survey of needs for establishing a training center for laity involved in ministry. Seven parishes and 106 clergy participated in the study.  Surveys were distributed during homily time at a Sunday liturgy in the seven parishes.  A discussion was held afterwards to help interpret the results.  Another survey, similar to the one distributed to the laity, was mailed to the active parish clergy.  The study indicated a positive attitude toward lay ministry among laity and clergy.  Theologically, the laity viewed lay ministry primarily as sharing in the priest's ministry.  The clergy indicated a concern about certain canonical issues and a distinction of roles.  Both groups saw a need for education and formation in lay ministry. He utilized Dr Kennon L Callahan's Twelve Keys to an Effective Church as a base document, and in the conduct of a sixteen-hour churchwide workshop sought to apply Dr Callahan's material to his local ministry setting.  From that process of teaching and interacting with the workshop's participants, enabling strategies for applying Dr Callahan's work were developed. Seven persons participated in the nine-week study, the first two being didactic sessions that covered worship and preaching.  They then participated in a Lenten Bible study-seminar of the New Common Lectionary texts. From the study, the author gained insights for the sermon. Utilizing a control group, the author conducted a pre-test and post-test. Twelve to fifteen year old youth were invited to participate in eight two-hour sessions.  Four of the eight sessions also included parents of the youth.
