The task force assesses the needs of single young adults, addresses those needs theologically, assesses the ability of the congregation to implement that theology, plans the organization of a single young adult ministry, and sets the plan in motion. The historical development of confirmation is traced from its roots in the early church down to the twentieth century.  A case study is also presented describing one congregation's attempt to renew its practice of confirmation.  A traditional tendency to over-emphasize confirmation at the expense of baptism is questioned as well as typical methods of confirmation preparation. Confirmation is related to its roots in baptism and the process of initiating children into the church. The project was designed to train the diaconate to minister more effectively to the needs of the congregation.  The role of the deacon as minister and how he functions within our church were given special emphasis in the training sessions.  The study clarified the role of deacon through a study of pastoral care skills. The study provided the deacons with practical experience. The goal of this project was to provide the quality teacher training which could only come through the cooperation of several congregations.  The training was age level based covering several important areas for the teachers. A curriculum was developed for adult education on death and dying. While much discussion has taken place, insufficient theological reflection has occurred.  In this project, the author encourages renewed reflection upon such issues as the mode and meaning of baptism, open or inclusive membership, re-baptism and baptismal unity.  He pays particular attention to the World Council of Churches document, Baptism, Eucharist, and Ministry.  The project provides biblical and historical research on Christian baptism, as well as current ecumenical dialogue. Contemporary baptismal theology and practice among Disciples are revealed by means of a survey consisting of both laity and clergy responses. It begins with a bibliographic essay of the literature in the last century.  It moves to a focus on how the Bible is used in developing a theology of other religions.  It then presents a Bible study, written for college students, which addresses the theological issues in understandable language.  The Bible study was fieldpre-tested with twenty Students.
