Using the pro-active research model the goal was to transform the participant's attitudes and actions with the poor. The conclusion is that it is easier to change thought than actions. Using video observation and participant interviews, this study explores the impact of leadership, a formational method of Bible study, the interlacing power of stories, prayer, conversation, and silence, in order to determine the efficacy of this small group model. He emphasizes that the recognition and acceptance of the languages and cultures are absolutely essential to any attempt toward evangelization. The author reports the positive evaluation of this project through the use of interviews, and church-based ministry, drawing on the National Plan for Hispanic Ministries of the United Methodist Church. He incorporates both academic and applied knowledge gained from his own research, and the National Plan. The author also incorporates his own experience gained while working in close alliance with the Hispanic community for the past thirteen years. First, sanctification is reviewed within Wesley's Way of Salvation. Next, the impact of the nineteenth century's holiness movement on sanctification is examined. Several lay people and clergy were interviewed to determine what contemporary United Methodists know about sanctification. Then eleven lay people participated in a five-week project, studying Wesley's experiential theology. This included development of clearly defined guidelines of supervision and team roles.  The project discusses roots of teamwork in ministry found in the Bible as well as defining 'success' according to New Testament principles.  Team leaders are trained to follow Jesus' model of servant leadership and to become holistic administrators who must function effectively as managers, leaders, and stewards.  Tenets in Family Systems Theory are also used to train team leaders. What sets clergy apart is their heritage of incorporating depression into their journey of faith and the practice of ministry. The author conducted a research project on biblical accounts of despair and development of Christian thought in the concepts of accidie and dark night of the soul. The extended essay compares the decline of the American church to the five stages of death described by Kübler-Ross.
